Will there be a X2?

Or better yet, let it "suffer" the same fate as many of the film compact cameras and just let it die. No follow-on is necessary or even particularly needed. The X1 served it's purpose in allowing Leica to beef up the software development department, participate (barely) in the

"pocketable" marketplace, and provide a platform for a lower price ILC offering which is supposedly coming at Photokina. It can have a place on the shelf next to the minilux, the

C1, and the CL.

My Sony 5N is putting out some very nice files with M glass.

So far it has worked great with everything I've put on it from 16mm to 75mm.

It has even given my 50mm DR Summicron a new digital life.

It has real MF, very nice high ISO and is responsive.

My M9 is my favorite camera and, no doubt, I'll get an M10 as soon as it's possible but..

Leica will have to do something really special to get me into an X2 or their new interchangeable lens system when a Sony 5N with an adapter and excellent EVF is under $1,000.

Best,

Bill

The main differentiator of the X1 is size. The smallest set up with excellent IQ and still jacket pocketable. NEX5 with M-lens (with Leica 24mm f2.8 or ZM 25mm) is much bulkier and heavier. And as far as price is concerned, your NEX might be USD1000, but how much does a f2.8 24mm m-mount lens cost again? And lastly, I have seen decent results from NEX5N and m-glas, but still no convincing review in which corner and edge sharpness with anything wider than 35mm (50mm equiv.) has been demonstrated.

I recently shot with my X1 every day for 5 weeks on a trip to Poland. I have had the X1 for about 1.5 years. What an incredible camera it is.

Each extended period of use brings new ways of getting more out of the camera. Everyone has commented about the IQ. That is because of the incredible views / scenery the pictures offered.

I hardly see that an X2 is required.

I couldn't agree more! Enjoy this camera's IQ - it's like nothing I've seen before.
