gfspencer Posted July 19, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) When you "PLAY" your photos you can request "INFO". At the bottom of your INFO screen you can read the Folder Number/File Name. For example, mine says "L100 - 0416". If I take a picture the next photo will read "L100 - 0417". I can format my card and take another picture and the next photo will read "L100 - 0418". I can change cards and take another picture and that photo will read "L100 - 0419". So if I have neverr changed Folders is 0419 the number of shots that my M8 has taken? (Yes, I realize that 0419 is a very low number but for a number of reasons my M8 has been idle for a very long time.)
Advertisement Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Hi gfspencer, Take a look here Shutter Actuations - Another Way to Measure?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted July 19, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 19, 2011 The number of pictures taken is not the total shutter activation's. If you to a sensor cleaning, where you open the shutter, that is another activation that is not counted in images taken. If for some reason you RESET the image numbering, manually with the menu or by accident by using a card that has older images on it and you VIEW one of those images before you take a shot, the image count would be way off from the total number of shutter activation's. trs Posted July 19, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2011 Also you will eventually run out of numbers in your card if you intend to keep it that way. That's only 4 digits. L100 - 9999 and you can no longer take picture. I have managed to do that on 8GB card while there is plenty of space available.

The camera should automatically go from the L100-xxxx to a new folder named L101 and then start the numbering off @ 0001. So just drop the L10 and you then end up with 10001. At least that is what my M8 did.
gfspencer Posted July 19, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted July 19, 2011 Thanks everyone. That all makes good sense. I measured actuations with the formula in the other thread and I have actuated the M8 938 times. 418 was way off.

That was with .4 firmware.

In many parts of physics a factor 2 is considered reasonably accurate:D
