NZDavid Posted July 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2011 All compact flashes are small and of no real use over a few meters. On-camera flash also looks harsh. One trick is to cover the flash with a white cloth for more diffused illumination. A good point with this camera is that the flash only comes on when activated manually. Other on or off-camera flash would be possible if needed (someone else could recommend a model), but this camera's real strength is in available light. StephenPatterson Posted July 13, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2011 David has been using the D-Lux 5 extensively, so some really good tips there. From my experience the flash on the D-Lux 5 is nice for daytime fill, as long as your subject isn't more than 2-3 meters away. Indoors I find that limiting the flash is tricky, as the flash compensation settings don't seem to make much difference. I will either use slow sync, use David's trick of putting a hanky over the flash, or go without and dial the ISO up.
