Venkman Posted February 8, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just to give the international community a heads up - two german forum members reported that their two free filters arrived this afternoon. Â There's a proforma invoice included, which lists the E 55 @ 63.00 Euro and the E49 @ 50.00 Euro. Â I guess that means that 1.10 firmware is just around the corner. LJL Posted February 8, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Delivery stateside must be close also. I had sent an email to Leica asking if I could exchange one of my ordered filters for another. Got a reply that it was no longer possible to do that. Suggesting that things are packaged and either shipped or in shipping now. Â Guess we might need to start a filter swapping thread soon for folks to get things aligned. Â LJ
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 8, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 8, 2007 I'll tell you i will have some extra filters for sure.We should start a filter swap thread soon here, it can only benefit folks. LJL Posted February 8, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Well, I will be one of the first to offer an exchange of an E49 (black) for an E60 (black), once I have it in hand. Â LJ

cometsoft Posted February 8, 2007 Share #8  Posted February 8, 2007 I sent in a request for a change last week and received an email confirmation approving the change emailed on the 5th of Feb. On the other hand I just submitted my original request 2 weeks ago. Maybe I'm on a second queue.   Delivery stateside must be close also. I had sent an email to Leica asking if I could exchange one of my ordered filters for another. Got a reply that it was no longer possible to do that. LJL Posted February 8, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Robert, Glad that they were able to accomodate you. I had my order in from the first day, so there may be a queue based on FIFO (first in first out) or something. I tried to make the change yesterday, and it was too late, according to the email I received this morning. Â Well, back to the swapping concept for me. cometsoft Posted February 8, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 8, 2007 LJ, Â If you just sent in the request yesterday, then that's a horse of a different color. Â I actually was kind of impressed they allowed me to change. Maybe my expectations were too low, but changing anything with some corporations is like parting the Red Sea. Â Good luck on your exchanges. Sounds like you should have lots of company.
Venkman Posted February 8, 2007 Author Share #11 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Ok, got home and had them delivered as well. Â For curious readers: Leica cardboard box, inside of it a quite large plastic box (Leica embossed in the plastic), small folder with remarks such as "6-bit coded lenses are necessary for the use of this filter with the M8" and "Because of the blocking effect of the filter, when using analog color film there will be undesirable color effects in the corners of the pictures[..]". Â Looks different than the B+W ones, as there is for example no foam inlay in the Leica box. Â Too bad my M8 is in the Solms Spa for a treat since yesterday
sean_reid Posted February 8, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Dirk, Â How did they end up marking them? The ones I have are marked Schneider 486 MRC Â Cheers, Â Sean

Not complaining. Just offered up my anecdote to support the idea that things are in shipment at this point.  LJ
Venkman Posted February 8, 2007 Author Share #14  Posted February 8, 2007 Dirk,How did they end up marking them? The ones I have are marked Schneider 486 MRC  Sean,  markings are (in my case): LEICA E46 UV/IR 13411 / opposite side GERMANY 13411 is the part number on the box.  See attached (not a keeper, but it'll do)  P.S. One interesting fact maybe: The proforma invoice lists as "country of manufacture" Japan. Welcome, dear visitor! photolandscape Posted February 8, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted February 8, 2007 This is welcome news. If they're landing on people's door steps in Europe, would anyone want to hazard a guess as to when they might be delivered to M8 owners in the U.S.? I guess they'll have to clear customs first once they hit the East Coast, then the orders would be fulfilled out of Leica USA--or would they make the individual shipments straight from Germany? (I'm guessing the former).

(I'm guessing the former). Â No that's not the case. They are coming directly from Germany. Leica USA (NJ) has nothing to do with ordering or supplying the FREE filters. It's the same with the 30% discount on a lens. That also comes straight from Germany and you pay your money straight to Germany.
bnelson Posted February 8, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Any idea on when we can order filters other than our two free ones? Will we order from the dealers on any additional filters? Â Bill
Guest WPalank Posted February 8, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Put me down on the swap list! I will have two items available to the highest bidder:D 1)E55 cut filter 2)one certificate for 6 bit coding at leica NJ. Â I need an E60 cut. Cheers! craigrmurray Posted February 8, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted February 8, 2007 I noticed from Dirk's picture that the filter is a thick one, with front threads on it. Somehow, I was thinking they would be the slim/thin style, without front threads, in order to bettter fit behind some detachable lens shades. Does anyone know if this will be problem with fitting some of the lenses and their shades?
LJL Posted February 9, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Craig, I have both the "Pro" and the "slim" versions of the B+W filters. The "slim" version has no front threads and is about half the overall thickness of the "pro" version, which the Leica appears to be. The problem with the "slim" version is that it is about 1-2mm larger in diameter, which I have found to be a greater problem fitting lens hoods over. This is especially true for several CV lenses and at least one Zeiss lens. The "pro" filter does not interfere on diameter, as it is identical to the lens, but for some Leica lenses, the greater depth/thickness may be a problem for some hoods.
