I have a problem with the standard lenshood for my 50mm Summilux Asph. LHSA.

It clips on front of the lens, but it won't work with filters, as the stick out to much.

I found this B+W lens hood at Robert white.

B+W Metal Lens Hood 950 | Robert White Photographic Ltd

Have any of you tried it? Will it work with filters, and does how huch does it obstruct the viewfinderview? (My viewfinder is the 0.85 version)

Hope you can help.

Best regards,

Morten Grathe

I have a B+W lens hood for my E58 Noctilux and it's pretty unusable on my 0.85x mag MP because it sticks out too much. Anyway your lens is an E43 and a 43mm hood isn't listed on the Robert White page.

I use a generic Cosina 43mm hood on my 50/1.4. Cameraquest has them at $59 plus cap. They're short, very well made, and screw into the 43mm filter. See pic below.

Using a Leica E43 UVa filter (13206) I don't have a problem fitting the lens hood. This filter doesn't seem to be listed currently in UK but maybe you could still find one new or second hand. It is quite shallow with no internal thread and is a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the front of the lens mount. This probably explains why the hood fits over it OK.

Hope this helps.

Hi

The other thing may be that you need 43mm x 0.5 pitch rather then the normal 0.75 pitch...

The leica low profile .5 pitch filters were difficult to get in 1980...

As was pointed out by Brian, you need a Leica 43mm as all other have a too thick rim so the hood will not fit. It is not difficult to finder a used one although Leica may still offer the E43 in black. What I did (my lens is chrome) was to but an old Leica filter, remove the glass (easy) buy a BW with better coating, take out the glass (a bit more work as you need to cut the rim) and mount the glass back in the Leica rim. Then you have a classic Leica filter perfect for the lens but with first class filter glass.
