noirist Posted July 6, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted July 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...hmmm, sounds like a lot of tech to compensate for a distinct lack of technique, if you ask me. I do like the sound of all that hard-core shutter action and buffering, though. There I was thinking I was pretty specific with the "Nikon D3s + 35/2.8 lens" criterion, but never mind. Thanks all the same, noirist. You're welcome! I mentioned the 35/f1.4 lens because to the best of my knowledge there aren't any native F-mount 35/2.8 lenses with autofocus. The cheapest native 35mm is the out-of-date 35mm/f2.0 but most people who want a 35mm prime for their D3s will likely get the 35mm/f1.4.

noirist Posted July 6, 2011 Share #22 Â Posted July 6, 2011 Thanks...after shooting with a Nikon D3S and the Nikon 200 2.0 beast nothing seems heavy or unbalanced....I got a great deal on the sf-58 and love the power of this flash which is very beneficial using bounce....but your correct,it is a bit large for the X-1 but really not a big deal for me. LOL.. That's my experience with the D3s exactly. When I first tried it out in the camera store with the 70-200mm it was so heavy that I thought I would have to keep it permanently attached to a monopod! But quickly I got used to it and now other cameras seem small and light. Â What made you try the X1 instead of the M9+35mm or D3s+35mm?
Sgt93 Posted July 6, 2011 Share #23 Â Posted July 6, 2011 The 35 1.4G was a great lens but I still preferred the 24 1.4G and had that mounted the majority of the time. None the less, my two fav lenses on the D3s. The only 2.8 lens I used was the 70-200 VR II. Walking around with that combo kept my chiropractor in business lol. Denis99 Posted July 6, 2011 Author Share #24 Â Posted July 6, 2011 It has arrived today - my son has charged the battery up whilst I was in work. Â Just about to go through the menu system to set the camera settings up. Â First impression is very good - good build and has the classic camera look. Dsg Posted July 6, 2011 Share #25 Â Posted July 6, 2011 Manual focus cameras are just not for me with my less than perfect vision.I wanted to love Zeiss lenses but just found through my vision I had a low percentage of keepers. Â I had the 35G but prefer the much lighter compact Nikon 35 2.0.I just keep the aperture above 4.0 mainly and the lens is plenty sharp for me.It's a real sweet combo on the D3S....especially using LV. phancj Posted July 8, 2011 Share #28 Â Posted July 8, 2011 Yup, portraits with the 85 has the dreamy bokeh reminiscent of the lux IMO....smooth and creamy....I love the lens a lot except I do not get to use it much as I normally lean towards "environmental" portraits....but I keep it as that bokeh has to be the absolute best in the nikkor lineup.
