dhoelscher Posted February 7, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 7, 2007 The M8 is currently shipping with a (kinda large) charger that has an accessory cord that plugs into a standard "lighter plug" found in automobiles, yep. Â DH
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 7, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Ken, mine came with the cigarette lighter adapter.
parigby Posted February 7, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 7, 2007 My M8 arrived today, and it had the car charging adaptor.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 7, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 7, 2007 One came with the DMR also, a great idea for sure
AlanJW Posted February 7, 2007 Share #6  Posted February 7, 2007 Do they still come with one of these for use in an auto? Ken    YES! Though I have not tried it out. The AC charger seems pretty slow to me compared to the chargers for my Canons. Do others think so too?
stunsworth Posted February 7, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Alan I agree, a full recharge really is about 4 hours. Having more than one battery helps :-)
gwelland Posted February 7, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Question: Why did Leica ship such a HUGE battery charger? Â I was initially excited that the folks from Solms had included a car charger that I could connect to the camera directly until it dawned on me that I could only daisy chain it to the main charger and not directly to the camera. Â I like to have a self contained camera outfit in a small bag. My previous R-D1, couple of lenses and the charger all fitted nicely into a small Bellingham Hadley bag. The M8 and lenses also fit but there's nowhere to put the absolute brick of a charger (which seems like it weighs close to the same amount of the camera btw!). Â In the end I bought two extra batteries and I'll probably get another charger that I can leave at home. That way I can travel with one, leave it in my checked luggage, and still have a reaonable size portable outfit that is good for a week or two in the case where I forget the charger. Â Note to Leica: Please come up with a true lightweight 'travel' power adapter. If I have to wait an extra couple of hours to charge overnight to get a smaller charger then I'd accept that limitation.
35mmSummicron Posted February 8, 2007 Share #9  Posted February 8, 2007 i believe the simple answer is that the M8 battery and charger are outsourced products/technology.  http://www.ansmann.de/cms/  /a   Question: Why did Leica ship such a HUGE battery charger? I like to have a self contained camera outfit in a small bag. carstenw Posted February 8, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 8, 2007 At least Ansmann is one of the best around here. I also have an AA charger from them.
gravastar Posted February 8, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 8, 2007 There are several things I would like to see improved on the charger. One is a smaller size making it easy to pack, the other is a reduction in charging time. Also, the charger has to plug into a wall socket which in many hotel rooms is near the floor. I much prefer a separate mains lead which you can change according to your destination. That also allows the charger to be placed on a table. If a standardized lead is employed it can be used with several other items such as portable backup storage. In many instances I've found two pin sockets in hotel rooms to be sufficiently worn that the weight of standard Ansmann chargers will cause them to drop out of the socket. Â Bob. wparsonsgisnet Posted February 8, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 8, 2007 ... separate mains lead which you can change according to your destination. That also allows the charger to be placed on a table....QUOTE]Â My packing list includes extension cords and plug adapters. Â I am a little more worried about the postings I have been reading concerning airlines charging for cabin luggage weight. I always carry all (as in all) the camera stuff with me, including one extension cord. It fits in a backpack (thanks to the compact size of certain RF cameras!), but does weigh a bit. Â Obviously, paperbacks are recommended for the sherpas among us.
