john_newell Posted June 30, 2011 Share #21 Posted June 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It comes down to personal taste. I've owned literally every version of the Summicron going back to the original M collapsible and all of the Summilux versions other than the ASPH. I have kept only a very late DR Summicron and a late Summilux. I love the (for lack of a better word) look of the Summilux. The ASPH is no doubt technically far superior, but I own a Summicron ASPH versions of the 35mm and 90mm lens and find them rather harsh. YMMV, of course. Advertisement Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hi john_newell, Take a look here Summilux vs Summicron 50mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
framestore Posted June 30, 2011 Author Share #22 Posted June 30, 2011 I already have two leica lenses in black(new), so I want to have third one in silver. I've been told that silver ver (lux 50/1.4 Asph) is slightly better in performance (- can't be sure-). I think silver looks cool.

AFAIK, silver and black versions of the same lens have the same optical performance. I can tell you that the all-brass mount is a good bit heavier and, in my opinion, significantly changes the balance of the camera. You may like it, or not...
