Advertisement Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Hi jippiejee, Take a look here X1 vs X100 studio test shows Leica X1 outperforming by real margin.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest malland Posted June 19, 2011 Share #2  Posted June 19, 2011 ...hoover mouse over pictures to see the comparable Leica images...Nah, I'd rather use a Maytag. The funny thing is that the tester then shoots a "real life" picture of his rwo daughters and concludes: Do you see any difference? Both cameras has default ACR sharpness on 100% crops, and honestly I do not see any difference in image quality. This is how real life is different than synthetic tests!  That's what Leica used to say about the "real" quality of Leica lenses, rather than winning artificial lens tests.  —Mitch/Pak Nam Pran Around Chiang Mai
Tsungtak Posted June 21, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted June 21, 2011 In his article he said he didn't want either camera but would take his 7d with 50mm 1.4. I just went to Savannah GA and had both the leica X1 and a Nikon 7000 with a 24 mm 2.8. I took pictures with the x1 and my wife didn't mind carrying it, the second time out we took the d7000 and I didn't take one pic and my wife complained that the camera was too heavy to carry in her purse. Why do people not understand for the need of a good point and shoot.
phancj Posted June 21, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted June 21, 2011 I think most people here do know the possibilities of having a light and small camera. In my case I value portability for something like the X1 and find its weight (or lack of) and size liberating. On the other hand I understand how some may need a VF on such a camera. End of the day all of us have different needs and there are multitude of options available. Preferences for IQ is so individual it is hard to compare especially so when the two cameras are pretty close in IQ. From examples I have seen it is evident to me that the X100 has better high iso performance but I like the bokeh of the X1 better. The distortion also appears more evident in the X100 but the X100 goes to f/2. Hard to decide really. What it comes down to IMHO is portability vs the need for a VF as a primary decision criteria. Â For me, the X1 is as close to my olympus mju (the first film version) albeit bigger. Man, I recall how liberating it was to have a portable cam that takes nice photos and it took me to many parts of the world including the mines of Brazil. I finally gave it to a dear friend there after I bought the zoom version which was admittedly a lot worse than the first rendition. Â When I walked down the DSLR route I bought lenses and bigger and bigger cameras which were for the most part left at the office, and renegated to only shots taken for work like product photography, portraits etc.etc. The sight of a big dry box of lenses and a hefty camera is not inspiring to me...but the DSLR is versatile and a necessity for my work so....BTW I will also buy the D4/D800 depending on the model that gets released first but mostly for work and event photography. For enjoyment I cannot enjoy a camera that size as even the X100 is considered big for me for a fixed lens camera. Â I wish leica will build the X2 to be smaller than the X1. I do not need Vf, just hand me the basics: good IQ, small size. Like a digital minox. Â My brother has the x100 and he has agreed to hand it to me for some time to toy with. I havent found time to pick it up from him but when I do rest assured I will test both cams under controlled settings and post raw, jpegs, etc,etc haha for the fun of it... prk60091 Posted June 23, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted June 23, 2011 I started to organize my photos ( tag them etc) yesterday and I realized something the photos I enjoyed the most were the ones I took with my "point and shoots". (x1 dlux4 and - don't laugh - a clux1) Â For example. Seattle's Public market | Flickr - Photo Sharing! this photo was taken with my clux on the way ack to the hotel after dinner one night and all I had was my clux1( it fit in my sport coat). It. Hangs on my wall 11x14. The best camera is the one you have with you not the one @home or locked up in the hotel. Currently it is the x1 for me.
