boilerdoc Posted June 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wanted to give a shout out to those darkroom printers among us! The new Ilford offering is superb in all ways. Hahnemuhle created the paper stock and Ilford coated and cut it (the way i understand it). It is a heavy weight, and silver rich "matte' surface paper. It tones nicely in selenium and is very slightly warm. The surface is what is unique to me.... Hard to describe. Textured but with a slight gloss at the same time. Beautiful tonality from TMax 400 shot with an M7/90 Summicron. And dries flat!!! The funny thing with it is I can't get the stuff to stay in the washer (Zone VI)! It pops up and almost out of the water!! Needs weights to keep it down!!! Anyway, I'm in love with this paper and want to compliment Ilford for hanging in there with us film shooters!!! Advertisement Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Hi boilerdoc, Take a look here Ilford's Multigrade Art paper - new. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RobSkeoch Posted June 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2011 I'm glad they came out with a new paper. I was part of the pre-production test group. It is a great paper, but as you said floats in the wash. -Rob Skeoch
BobYIL Posted June 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2011 Did you use Dektol or some other developer? Is retouching possible with pencil or only liquid? Thanks Bob
RobSkeoch Posted June 15, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2011 I used Ilford Bromophin. I would guess a pencil would work but didn't try. -rob
boilerdoc Posted June 15, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted June 15, 2011 I used a SpotPen without any problem. The 'tooth' of the surface would seem to mean you could also use oils/paints/pastels, etc. for handcoloring. I'll have to try that... Steve PS: I used Ilford Warmtone developer in an effort to increase the warm tone a little..... The image develops very quickly, which was a surprise! I expected a very slow development but the image was totally done in 90 seconds...
Allen in Montreal Posted June 16, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 16, 2011 Thanks for the post Steve, I picked up a box of 11x14 but have yet to be able to try the paper out. I was planning on trying it with Edwal Plat ll. Should be close to the same results as the Ilford WT dev I would think.
