TonyMCS Posted June 20, 2011 Share #21 Posted June 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) A few comments: The m4/3 flange focal distance (the lens mount to the sensor) at 19,25 mm is about half that of 4/3 at 38,67mm. So we couldn't use m4/3 lens on a 4/3 body - the lens will never reach infinity focus. The image circles will be similar as the sensor diagonal is the same for both standards - 21,63mm which is half 35mm film diagonal. Cost reductions etc can apply to m4/3 format sensors too. There will be a future market for m4/3 if innovation and sensor/processor/firmware improvements continue - we may well see a reduction in the image quality advantages of the larger sensors. daveleo Posted June 21, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 21, 2011 My comment about buying a used D3 was only semi-serious to begin with, then dropped to ridiculous when I saw what people were asking for one. I think it is now a "collector's camera", maybe 4/3 is even a "collectors format" !. Also . . . Fuji has produced a series of medium format cameras (645 format) with fixed, prime lenses and they are very popular (I love mine !), so maybe a similar plan for micro4/3 cameras is not out of the question, but i suspect a fixed zoom lens has more public appeal. Micro4/3 may not have pro-appeal, but, given the needs of the average snaphooter, it is a VERY attractive format for a camera-only device.
