Hi S2 fans and users,

I bgt my S2 camera two months ago and I brought the camera to shoot

at Barcelona for the past week. I got great photos but I got the dust

in the finder. Here below is my troubles:

1. I took out the focusing screen and I still can see a tiny little hair in the

viewfinder. I guess the hair is insider the finder area which is impossible

for me to get ride of.

2. I do not see black dots or little spots in the S2 image (with 100% white

background), and so I believe the sensor is still clean.

So, is it better for me to live with the tiny small hair in the finder at this moment

and wait until the camera needs general service to clean it up? I know a lot of

DSLR has dust in the finder and it seems no one will suggest to clean it up

everytime when dust comes.

Also, how often should I send my S2 for check up. I am not a professional

photographer and I shoot around 50 shots per month.

Thanks for your comments on my concerns,

Frank Leung

Frank,

I do not believe that you will have access to the VF to remove the hair.....

I previously took a Hasselblad 501CM Waist Level Finder out in a snow storm to photograph some trees .... Snow landed in the Finder Chimney and was adsorbed into the newer Acute Matte screen...from the side. It stained the view screen but had no effect on the pictures. However I finally bought a new screen as I could not look past the defects.

My advice is learn how to clean the sensor yourself...as you will be doing this on a regular basis. Disregard the dust/hair and enjoy your captures. When you need major service have Leica address the issue....do not waste your time or money for something that will probably recur and has no effect on the imaging.

Checkup? Wait until it breaks or three months prior to your warrant expiration...as Leica turnaround is a bit slow.

I personally use a Visible Dust Zeeion Blower, Sensor Swabs and Eclipse fluid for tough spots on the sensor...7 years 11 cameras without a problem. The Visible Dust Quasar Sensor Loupe helps define the problem.

Best shooting,

Bob

Frank-

you cn remove the focussing screen and gently blow in some pressurized CO2 or simply use a Giotto blower... REMEMBER that the hair or dirt in the viewfinder is just a cosmetic issue that is inherent to all slr/dslrs... As long as your sensor is clean, nothing to fret about...
