Print the same photo with various adjustments in LR3

Is there a way in LR3 to print an A4 with maybe 6 or 8 versions of the same photo with various adjustments done before committing to the final print. I have done this before in Photoshop but as I am new to LR I am not sure. It allowed me to see which version of the photo would be the best one to use for the final print rather than wasting paper and ink on individual test prints. I have tried a plug-in that shows a soft proof but unfortunately it does not seem to be anywhere near what I get when I print the image.

Thanks in advance.

Soft proofing is one of the features I miss most using LR versus PS (I think Adobe fears cannibalization of product).

David is right about virtual copies. For other good info about LR, the Scott Kelby book (sans bad jokes) is worthwhile, as are books by Martin Evening. Some prefer online tutorials. Either way, you'll serve yourself well by getting some early guidance, which might help establish a good foundation (including file storage structure) and workflow. Plus, you'll learn a bunch of nifty tricks and shortcuts that would otherwise go undiscovered.

Thanks for that chaps, I will check out some books. The Adobe on-line tutorials are pretty good, I have watched a few. So I imagine it must be possible to select each variation of a virtual copy and print them onto an A4 contact sheet to get an idea of how the colours look etc. The reason I ask is I have just offered to print a picture that a friend took and so far I have printed off about eight 7x5's before I got the printed colours looking right. I eventually would like to print an A3 for him but this way is rather heavy on the ink and paper.

Dave, seems like a lot of trial and error. If your paper profiles are accurate, your screen is calibrated, and you have a decent printer and proper settings (for both printer and LR, including white balance), then you shouldn't need to waste that much paper on just color rendition.

Dave,

When you have several variants you want to see printed, set up a paper size in the print module and under the "Layout Style" window in the print module (upper left ) choose Custom Package and then drag your variants onto the shown page. You can drag any number of variants onto it and move them, resize them rotate them etc.

Under "cells" you can insert empty pre-sized cells which you can edit and there are many more possibilities.

Hope this helps

That seems to be the sort of thing I was looking for Maurice. I shall experiment, thanks. To be fair this particular photo has some rather deep dark shadows and brightly lit grassy areas and maybe I am expecting too much. I do have my screen calibrated and use an Epson R1800 and usually I am quite pleased with the results given my lack of knowledge.
