k0vt73 Posted May 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I want to purchase a 2nd usb cable but can't find one that looks like what the 5 has. does anyone know the specific name for the usb type? i googled my limited brains out and all i could find is 'type B' which i don't think is correct. neither is 'micro'. Thanks, -Tim

ho_co Posted May 24, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2011 Tim, welcome to the forum! Unfortunately I can't answer the "what's it called?" question, but I can do better with "where can I get one?" Check out Panasonic for your region, and their LX5. If they don't show the cable under "Accessories" (and they don't in the US), check their "Parts locator," in a link at the bottom of the "Accessories" page. Oops, they don't show the cable under "Parts" either--but they do list a phone number on the US site (800-833-9626) and they give you a link for "feedback." In the US, I've used both the Web and the phone contact and found both to be quite helpful. They might even be able to identify the connector for you. Good luck in getting the information you need! macjim Posted May 24, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 24, 2011 Ah! Good question, I'm not 100% sure but I think it is a mini USB. Take the cable you have with you or take the camera with you when you go to buy the cable and ask for the correct cable for this. Check the handbook for more info. Cheers, Macjim. k0vt73 Posted May 24, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted May 24, 2011 ho_co, good idea and thank you for the phone#, i'll do that. macjim, yes, mini seems to be the closest applicable name for the cable and reviewing wikepedia, the cable end is shown and listed as "proprietary" on top of that. i did look with a magnifying glass and it has 5 pins. thanks for the fast help guys. -Tim
