AproPo my previous declared problem with the GigaVu Pro, I have spoken to the importer and he feels that my unit may be faulty. Even though the Pro is not specifically M8 (DNG) compatible, he said it should still copy the data from the card and later be viewable on the computer. He has asked for it to be returned and checked. I will do that tomorrow.

Just tested my Gigavu Pro Evolution with some M8 files.

When you use it with the M8 dng files the Jobo only displays the small jpeg preview. I have tried setting it to display raw data only, but that does not seem to work. It can't decode the raw data from the M8, so when youbtry to zoom in on an image it takes forever and when it's finally done all you get to see are some lines that don't make any sense.

You can still use it to backup your M8 files, but without being able to view raw's. It will probably be fixed with a firmware update.

You also need the SD-->CF adapter, because you can't copy files to the Jobo through the USB connection.

I have an Epson P-3000 which works flawlessly in copying files from M8 and DMR (it has both SD and CF cards slots), but as all other similar units it can't read DNGs from both cameras.

The only workaround with the M8 is to shoot DNG+Jpeg, so that you then use the jpeg to evaluate exposures (levels) and sharpness (zooming).

Sadly the DMR can't simultaneously record DNG + Jpeg, so the P-3000 acts only as a portable hard-drive in this case.

Anyway the wonderful screen is nice to show final images to friends without have to deal with laptops etc.

I have just left my dealer after extensive testing of M8 DNG files & jpegs etc on my JOBO GigaVU Pro. It seems the Pro will NOT see any M8 files whatever the format! Before my M8 was modified, it worked OK. NOw that I have firmware 1.9 it won't work on the JOBO Pro.

We tested the JOBO Evolution anf that reads the files and transfers then but will not do zooming etc which doesn't bother me. My dealer is arranging to swap my unit for the evolution tomorrow.

Strange that the M8 files, Both DNG AND jpegs cannot be read now when they could before.

I have emailed both Leica and JOBO, but don't expect I will get prompt, if any reply.

This bums me out that there is nothing out there viewable to the DMR and M8 users

Guy, I agree with you, but we must acknowledge that 'we' are a minority in this world of technology which in turn is driven by dollars. I think all we can hope for is that Leica may somehow make our files readable by these devises rather than the other way around.

In my case, the only requirement I have is to be able to off load a shoot when my cards are full. I don't usually have time to chimp on a portable to see if the images are OK or not. They just have to be right when I shoot, or else. That I am used to.:D

Thomas - does the Giga One work well with DNG files taken by the M8?

Hi

I spoke with Leica Germany and they adviced me to use the Jobo VU extreme, i did not buy it as yet so i dont know if it works well with DNG.

Epson 2000 cant read the DNG

I use the LIGHTROOM on my mini laptop

Since 2007, the PSD market has changed somewhat, and I have a harder time justifying the Jobo's high price compared to newer PSDs offering higher capacities, like the Hyperdrive Colorspace 0.

Being able to actually view M8 raw images on the Jobo isn't the must-have feature that some folks seem to think it is: The Jobo has limited computing power, and opening an M8 DNG takes ~50 seconds and there are no histogram or other tools available. The Jobo's more advanced tools (histogram, clipping indicator, dust detection) only work with JPEG images. If you need more advanced tools for evaluating your DNG images, you need to use a computer instead.

Just bought a Colorspace 0 empty & added a Hitachi Travelstar ATA drive(160GB) & the device works quite well with my D3 files, but have not downloaded the M8 files yet.Hope to try them(DNG) out later this evening.
