petemasty Posted May 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I could pick some brains, it would be appreciated. I have noticed that i have one more download left of Lightroom 3 from the Leica site. so if my puter goes belly-up and i have to reload lightroom, then I will have used up all my downloads. Has anyone downloaded the Lightroom files and reloaded them from a disk? And, if Leica state I have no more downloads left, then will I have to buy Lightroom? Apologies if it sounds a bit dumb, but its the first time I've downloaded software where there has been a limit on downloading.

stunsworth Posted May 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2011 You have a serial number I assume? That should mean that you can download the standard Adobe 30 day trial and activate it using the serial number. Not much help when LR 4 arrives, but it might help in the interim. Apologies if that's not how the Leica LR 3 offer works.
steve kessel Posted May 12, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 12, 2011 As I understand it, you get two downloads for two different computers. As to your question, if your computer crashes, I expect Adobe will let you download the copy that was on it again but perhaps not if by the time this happens, it is a very old version of Lightroom. andybarton Posted May 12, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2011 Why not download the installer, and keep it?
macjim Posted May 12, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2011 Why not download the installer, and keep it? If it's downloaded to a Mac you can save to the downloaded file to a folder, burn it to disc or save it to, say Dropbox as a back up when you need to reinstall later. I dint know how that works with Windows. The reason I asked PC or Mac was this, if Mac, use time machine back up and you not need to worry about it as it will be usable on any other Mac you buy later. Cheers, Macjim. petemasty Posted May 14, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted May 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a PC by the way. and yes I have a serial number hence am able to download the full version. I'll try burning the downloaded files to a disk and see if i can reinstall using these files. Sounds like there isnt a limit on how often one downloads, just a limit on how many machines it can be downloaded on to.
hoppyman Posted May 14, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 14, 2011 As Steve mentioned you can download whatever version of Lightroom is current as a trial for free from Adobe as many times as you like. Naturally there is nothing to prevent you simply saving the download and using it to install again if you choose. In fact whenever there is a point upgrade (3.3 to 3.4 for example) the upgrade consists of a complete version of the entire program anyway. Only the licence matters and the Adobe EULA allows you to have a copy on your laptop and your main computer with the same serial number. The link provided when you use a TAN from Leica simply generates a serial number which can be applied to any installed version to which you are entitled. The reason for the TAN is to reduce fraud from people guessing serial numbers. There is no requirement at all to use the link provided by Leica Camera (separate to your serial number) to download the program. That is just a convenient link but irrelevant as far as the licence with Adobe is concerned and the version obtained is identical in every respect.
