dwmaroski Posted June 27, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 27, 2011 Why limit yourself at all? Get all the lenses and bodies you can while you can. They will only be worth more as time goes on. I have the M8, M9 and M7 and 50sx asph and noct 1.0 and other lenses. I like to shoot the M8 with 35 sx asph and the M9 with 50 sx asph giving me an equivalent focal length more or less between the two. I shoot the M7 with the 50sx asph and all with UVIR filters even the tri-x loaded M7. All this is for tests at the moment as I love the M8 and am unsure of the M9. The M7 is to slow me down. Actually this whole process of shooting the same image with three cameras has slowed me down. I am a working professisonal and use Nikon in my work and am tied to the computer more than I was ever tied to the darkroom. The Leica is a retreat to a place I can concentrate on nothing and everything simultaneously and not money. I have gone crazy with Leica purchases but even when I sell because I need the money I buy them back. One could say Leica is a narcotic in the camera world. Nikon is not, Canon is not, Hasselblad is not, no one except Leica. Why, because Leica was the first and will be the last when all image making has moved on to cell phone like devices. In fact there are few working photographers under 30 who care what the image making device is as long as it works for their vision of which they really have very little. I still champion film and use Leica digital for convenience. The glass is the key. Buy all of it. Just my humble opinion.
phancj Posted June 28, 2011 Share #24 Posted June 28, 2011 I agree. it's just a matter of time the need to acquire gear will creep in...so mostly likely one will end up with an M9/M10 and the noct. So key is to buy what is most "required" or "urgent" and most importantly what one can comfortably afford at the moment. Everything will fall into place eventually.
