rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello! I am about to order a Luigi fullcase for the M9 and would like to know if anyone here (who has this case) could tell me whether the normal "nose" is long enough to fit a Leica Summicron 75mm or 90mm or would it be better if I ordered a longer "nose"?!? Thank you!

rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Andy! No... his assistant asked me in the email to measure the length of the lenses and since I don't have them (yet), I have no idea how long these lenses are (the 75 & 90mm). I only have the Summilux 50mm.
bill Posted May 6, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2011 Then it's a quick question to Leica CS, surely? Regards, Bill
wizard Posted May 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2011 Then it's a quick question to Leica CS, surely? Regards, Bill An even better idea IMHO would be to have a quick look at the technical data linked as a pdf-document to each current lens on Leica's website. Saves Leica's CS the hassle of answering yet another call ... Cheers, Andy

rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted May 6, 2011 I've got the measurement for both lenses from Leica website as you suggested. Thanks again!
andybarton Posted May 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 6, 2011 Leica's website will have dimensions for all their lenses.
bill Posted May 6, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 6, 2011 Just out of curiosity (and forgive me for I haven't looked) are the dimensions given from the lens flange or from the mount? Regards, Bill
wattsy Posted May 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted May 6, 2011 Just out of curiosity (and forgive me for I haven't looked) are the dimensions given from the lens flange or from the mount? I'm being a bit thick and am not 100% sure of the difference (as worded) but I think the answer is "from the mount". Put it another way, Leica's length dimension corresponds with the amount of lens sticking out when mounted (excluding hood). At least that is the case with the only lens I have to hand and the measurements Leica have given for it.
bill Posted May 6, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 6, 2011 No, I worded it poorly. That's what I meant. The external dimensions of the lens, unmounted, are greater than the "mount to front" length, not by much, admittedly, but a bit, and probably significant given the context of the OP's question. ianman Posted May 6, 2011 Share #13 Posted May 6, 2011 Hello! I am about to order a Luigi fullcase for the M9 and would like to know if anyone here (who has this case) could tell me whether the normal "nose" is long enough to fit a Leica Summicron 75mm or 90mm or would it be better if I ordered a longer "nose"?!? Thank you! I don't have a case but I do have my M9 and 90mm Summicron with me... the total length with a uv filter and cap is 133mm. This is with the asph. summicron. rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted May 6, 2011 Luigi's assistant told me that the inner room of the detachable nose of his full case is 70mm. While according to the Leica website specification the length of the Summicron 90mm lens, from the bottom to the top, is 78mm. So in this case, it's clear that if I were to buy this lens in the future, I would need the case with the longer version nose.
rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted May 6, 2011 70mm is the normal length "nose", I mean.... but I am pretty sure sig.Luigi could make the nose according to client's preference (any specific length).
rea1412 Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Ian! Would you mind measuring it without the lens & the cap? how long is it? 78mm? Thanks!
Pintpot Posted May 6, 2011 Share #17 Posted May 6, 2011 He could call an extra long nose case 'The Cyrano' Sorry!
ianman Posted May 6, 2011 Share #18 Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Ian! Would you mind measuring it without the lens & the cap? how long is it? 78mm? Thanks! Yes, the lens is just under 78mm without cap and filter. Attached to the M9 the full length is about 120mm (without cap and filter)
