Feudal1 Posted April 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received my new X1 today. All seems well, except for changing aperture using the aperture wheel. When I spin it around to select a new aperture, the new aperture won't get set until I press down on the aperture wheel. So, for example, I rotate the aperture wheel from 2.8 to 4. However, the display still shows it set as 2.8. It's only after I press down on the aperture wheel, that the aperture changes to 4 (to match what the aperture wheel says). This seems like a problem, which kind of turns me off of what is a $2,000 camera. Very disappointing. Should I return the camera? Or is there something I'm missing? Just looking for some guidance. Thanks! Chris

Your Aperture selector control may be faulty..mine just clicks into position.. (My brothers new Maserati had a few small issues on delivery) Have the seller immediately replace your camera........ The aperture should change simultaneously as you click the wheel. At the same time, this should be visible in the LCD. charles
Guest badbob Posted April 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2011 If the question was "....Is this normal?", then the answer might actually be yes, given it's the X1. Sorry for the cynicism.

dkCambridgeshire Posted April 28, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2011 If you phone Leica Solms, they should be able to assist you: Phone: 06442 - 208 189 Fax: 06442 - 208 339 Andrea was very helpful to me when my X1 needed repair. But your dealer might be the best option - maybe for an immediate replacement if you have been sold a faulty camera. dunk

Feudal1 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted April 29, 2011 Appreciate the help. Picked up a replacement that seems to be working properly. Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens now and then. Sent from my Thunderbolt

dkCambridgeshire Posted April 29, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 29, 2011 The defective X1 will be repaired ... and someone will then get a bargain 'ex demo' camera. At least you will now have 4 copies of Lightroom to use! dunk

At least you will now have 4 copies of Lightroom to use! dunk I didn't register the faulty camera, so still just the 1 copy of Lightroom for the replacement. However, that is a nice little bonus - I have CS5, but not Lightroom. Should be an interesting learning experience. I currently have a Pentax K-5 and several limited primes to go with it, and can definitely say that the shooting experience is a little different between the two. I like the small size of the X1, and the fact that I can get SLR-type quality out of such a small camera body. The Elmarit lens and classic Leica design are excellent too. Shot a few test shots yesterday evening with the replacement, and have to say that the dynamic range, color reproduction and AWB are quite excellent. Even with firmware 2.0, it's not the fastest camera on the block, but for 85% of what I shoot, the speed is not an issue. It'll be a fun camera to shoot with, I think.
