What do you think of your V Lux 20

Out of the three Panasonic Leicas, I owned the D Lux 5 for a short period and now have two V Lux 20's. I read too many unhappy comments about the V Lux 2 that I did not bother to try one.

I just could not get as sharp images out of the Lux 5 as I can out of the Lux 20. I did all kinds of tests on both cameras and ended up selling the "5" and replaced it with another "20". For standard type photography the Lux 20 gives better IQ (in my own experience).......but in the macro field, the Lux 5 was slightly better.

So, why are there no comments or threads on the V Lux 20?

There have been some threads in the German forum, but now the camera is not produced any longer, so its became quiet around the v 20.

I like my V-Lux 20 very much, because its small and good to use for nature photography!

Yes I also have good results capturing birds in trees etc. The focus is spot on and images can easily be enlarged to large size without loss in quality.

There are other Leica cameras that are no longer made but remain a strong talking point.......perhaps because the V Lux 20 is a P&S camera, (while the others are more versatile) may be the reason for such low interest dedicated to it.

I agree with you, it has something to do with the fact, that the lux 20 is a p&s camera, and a "panaleica", what means that many people from the forum don`t take it seriously as a Leica.

The same as the lux 2, if there is any posting, its mostly about the bad image quality....

PS.: I like your pics! What cameras did you use?

Since 2004 I used two Olympus cameras, more recently I used the V Lux 20. In the future I will continue this combination depending on the circumstances, the V Lux 20 will be my "carry go anywhere" camera.

Thats a nice description for my V-Lux 20, too:

-my "carry go anywhere" camera-

Although my other cameras (Olympus Pen and V-Lux 2) are small and compact, too, I prefer my Lux 20 (in the soft leather bag) in many situations.

What settings Do you prefer? I mostly like:

P, AF spot, spot metering, not more than 400 ASA, noise reduction -1 and sometimes sharpness +1.

Yes, I prefer JPGs direct out of the cam.....

I only have the camera for short period but so far the settings are similar to yours.....because the aperture range is limited, I have not used the "A" setting very much at all, ........mostly P, AFspot/macro, centre weighted exposure, ISO limit to 800, the IR and IE is on/standard.......with all other settings on "0"......so far I am very happy with the results........my wife took the first one of me, so had to get another one.

I have had a lux 20 for about 12 months now.

I also use a D2 and E620. Each has it's own advantages and I use each on different occasions. what I do like about the lux20 as well as superb images is it's solid feel and pocketable dimensions. It is discreet in use and so good for street photography. In addition the video performance is awesome, it does have one over the Panasonic in this Dept. I am not concerned about what purists think, I chose the Red Dot version for it's slightly better performance, extended warranty and inclusion of Elements.
