peekpt Posted May 17, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted May 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just purchased my X1 and cannot see how you would attach a UV filter to the lens - there is no thread. You have to unscrew the original metal ring first

Solar B Posted June 9, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 9, 2011 The Filter adaptor and vented hood do not look quite as good in the flesh IMHO but as promised by Doug they are pretty good quality and im sure will serve their purpose. Brian

Whitford Posted August 5, 2011 Share #25 Posted August 5, 2011 Just received the Kiwi extension tube and lens hood; also put in an order for the vented hood as I like the way it looks. So far I have those, the handgrip and a Leica Brightline viewfinder on the way. I'm now trying to decide if I want to even bother getting a UV filter. I do have a 49mm polarizer that I could use but what would the benefit of that be if I can't see the adjustment it's making through the viewfinder? I'd like to use the LCD as little as possible. Thanks.

Guest Posted August 23, 2011 Share #30 Posted August 23, 2011 Lambda, How did you make that? vettran, it´s a homemade tube... i took an old nikon tube 49mm and choped it (ca 2,2cm length) i add an step-down rind 49-46mm(extruded it in the tube ),an old filterring and a vented hood(china).... i wanted to realize a compact tube with a small diameter.... it´s not possible to remove the hood or to add a filter, cause it´s too short(or you have to add some filterring to make it longer:)) for a perfect finish i resprayed the tube , overworked the raw edge and add a rubberband and glued the step down ring inside the tube..... that´s it....... lambda

hmisbell Posted August 23, 2011 Share #32 Posted August 23, 2011 This a handsome kit. But one question--what model is the Billingham bag?
viramati Posted August 29, 2011 Share #33 Posted August 29, 2011 What I find interesting about these add ons is that by the end of the day the whole combi is probably bigger than and M9 with a 35 summarit . Obviously cost less than half the price of the M9 but it really seems to defeat the object of a small camera!! They do look good though

Ruhayat Posted September 1, 2012 Share #35 Posted September 1, 2012 Nice mods! I just bought a secondhand X1 and damn, the thing is slippery and just generally hard to grasp firmly. Using a leather wrist strap foraged from an old bag instead of the supplied neck strap has improved things somewhat, but a thumbgrip is still needed I think so that's on my to-buy list. A friend got the Leica handgrip for his and it does improve handling. But I might go with an Artisan & Artist half-case instead as it gives you that hump, protects the bottom of the camera AND it looks handsome to boot! And I must say: the new leather covering + that homemade Nikon tube really makes the X1 look like a Real Camera!

Ruhayat Posted September 3, 2012 Share #37 Posted September 3, 2012 Looks gorgeous! Where did you buy the skin from? And what's that on the bottom - looks like part of the grip but without the grip? hi just see this old thread comming back again;)in the meantime i change a few things;) this is current state: (just a quick shot) lambda.... Guest Posted September 4, 2012 Share #38 Posted September 4, 2012 thx, it´s the black one´s skin:cool: you are right it´s the leica plate i saw off the grip.... that´s strange i guess:D what i want to reach is a more classic leica look,i allways like the handling with the grip but i prefer a clean look ,on the other hand without the plate the cam is-imo-too small, not high enough. ........so this is the result;) i like the new proportion in combination with the tube and the hood ;)handling is still nice because of the thumbs up,i love the classic look..... Ruhayat Posted September 4, 2012 Share #39 Posted September 4, 2012 Nice. I agree about the X1 needing more height and also weight, being more used to M than Barnack Leicas. Too bad I don't have enough money to buy a pricey handgrip and then saw it off, though. So I guess an Artisan & Artist half-case would have to do for now - kills 2 birds with one stone: grip + leather sleeve, at the price of the Leica handgrip.
