Any M8/CV12 Impressions?

Kurt,

I had the 12 CV for a while and it performs quite well on the M8, with minimal vignetting and very low distortion.

Sharpness is very good, amazing if you consider the extreme focal lenght.

Contrary to the 15 CV you don't need to stop down (but you start with a slower lens anyway).

My sample though was rather soft at the right edge.

I also found the superwide focal lenght of limited use to me, so I preferred to keep the 15 CV (also excellent).

Providing you get a good sample and you like the 16mm focal lenght, I can only recommend it ! :)

Thanks Marco and Sean, good to hear. I want to settle on an M8 ultrawide lens solution for some landscape shots for a trip I am planning to go on this summer. I'm trying to decide on whether to go with the CV15 and/or CV12, the Zeiss 15 or the WATE. I'd like to maximize detail and resolution and wonder how well the CV lenses ultimately stack up against the Zeiss and the WATE in final image quality.

I can't compare to the 15, as I don't have one, but he 12 is a lot of fun with the M8.

I found it vignetted very badly on my M6, but the M8 crop really compliments the lens.

It won't be real soon because I'm backlogged with lenses to test but I will be reviewing that whole set: CV 12, CV 15, Zeiss 15 and WA TE.

Cheers,

Sean

I currently have and enjoy using the CV15 on my M8. I'm curious, how well the CV12 works on the M8. Is the CV12 generally of the same quality (sharpness, clarity, distortion, etc.) as the CV15?

Kurt

The CV12 - is a great lens..best bang for the (wide) buck out there in my humble opinion.

Great shots Terry. Looks like I'll have to buy abother damn lens.

Hi Mike, I got lucky.. a friend of mine was moving from 35mm film to LARGE FORMAT (8x10) and offered me the 12mm - including the black case which holds the viewfinder. I had the 15mm to it was not a big leap of faith. It is so much fun to use - I have shot a bit of film with it on the M7 but I like it better on the M8. Go figure!

Cheers. Terry.

Has anyone made any color shots with the 12mm C-V lens on the M8? I am curious.

(Sorry, Marco! I overlooked your impressive example!)

Vivek,

I only shoot DNG so all of them are in color - converted to Black and White using the JFI profiles recommended by Sean Reid. We could post in color I suppose.

Cheers. Terry.

Hi Terry, Yes, I should have phrased it better. How is the color management with this lens?

Marco's shot is quite clever (placed the dark corner in the middle :-) ).

Here is an ultrawide shot in color (I didn't correct a small color fringing). I am not an M8 owner (yet).

Out of curiosity, how do those of you who shoot with the 12 plan to correct for cyan corners? Do you use an IR filter with this lens? The shots above are superb, but if/when I purchase this lens, I'll also want to order a filter for it if that's even possible.
