NZDavid Posted April 19, 2011 Share #1  Posted April 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, I can't see anything so far.  I have read the instructions on the Leica site:  "...4.Download the Firmware file from the Leica X1 site using the “UPDATES” link and unzip the file.  5. Save the unzipped file X1-V20.upd at the top level of the card’s folder structure...."  I clicked on download and the Zip file goes straight into the trash. I am using a Mac and Safari. I don't think Macs can open Zip files. Haven't really got a lot of time for this; otherwise I'll take it into the shop later on, but your help is appreciated just in case. The fact your zip-file goes to the trash might mean, the file gets unzipped automatically after download. Look into your Download folder (~/Downloads) The X1-V20.upd file might be there already. If it is there twice, do only use the copy with the name "X1-V20.upd", not the other one(s) with (1) or (2) attached to the file name. Copy it directly onto your SD-card. Do NOT put it into the DCIM-folder. Follow further instructions given by Leica.  The whole matter has been already discussed in another thread. mjh Posted April 19, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted April 19, 2011 Zip is the standard for file compression under Mac OS X, so the OS can deal just fine with .zip archives. If you want to improve support for other archive formats, the free The Unarchiver (The Unarchiver on the Mac App Store) would be a good choice; Stuffit Expander has been obsolete for years. I just get the message, "There is no default application specified to open the document "XC1-V20.upd." And that's it! Also, no idea anyway how I would save it "at the top level of the card's folder structure." Â Why does everything associated with computers and software have to be so damn complicated? andybarton Posted April 27, 2011 Share #6  Posted April 27, 2011 You don't need to do anything with that file XC1-V20.upd on your computer. That is the firmware update for the camera.  All you do is drag and drop that file onto the top level of your SD card, and put the card into the camera. The camera microprocessor knows what to do with it. When you look at your SD card, by double clicking its icon on the desktop or doing whatever it is you do with Windows Explorer, it will contain a couple of folders, probably. Just place this .upd file NEXT TO, but not in, those folders.  Welcome, dear visitor! I did it multiple times for my M8 and have done it the requisite number of times for my M9. I know that the X1 firmware is on the card because I can see it listed. But you are correct, it was not like the M8 or M9 upgrades, where I had always been able to drag the upgrade to the card reader image on my Mac. But doing as Andy illustrated, I got it work.
