edwin brys Posted April 16, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted April 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've got my brandnew X1 two days ago. I charged the battery properly, after some 3 hours the green light appeared. I took 19 pictures and tested the camera on its various functions for some two hours. After that the battery indicator flashed red. Is that normal? Seems it takes some time before a battery reaches its peak performance, but when? BTW I adore this little jewel, having worked before with Contaflex, Rolleicord, M3, Nikon and Contax. Now I was charmed by the use of onely one lens and my favorite one. I hope this battery problem is temporary. 2nd question : the camera wad delivered with the WB put on "cloudy" , is this normal. Â 3 question : i have got the Leica wrist carrying strap in stron leather. But the strap is attached to the camera just be a very thin thread. It looks so fragile! Â Â Thanks any experienced X1 user for helping a newcomer! Edwin

wda Posted April 16, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted April 16, 2011 Edwin, Welcome to the Forum! Your battery is not displaying normal behaviour. I suggest you recharge it, several times. If your warning persists, report it to your Leica dealer who should be prepared to exchange it for you as it is so new. Â I cannot remember what setting my WB was on delivery; Auto I think. Just reset it to your chosen value. Is there any evidence from unpacking etc to suggest your camera had been opened previously, possibly by the dealer for demonstration? Â Wrist strap; yes, the cord does look flimsy but, with care, it is quite strong and must have passed Leica's specification. Sensible caution is my watch-word when carrying my X1. I never allow it to dangle without extra support. I do find the hand-grip confers extra confidence in handling the camera. For me, the Leica grip is indispensable. Â I wish you great success and happiness with your new camera.
edwin brys Posted April 16, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 16, 2011 hello wda, Thanks for your quick reply. I will keep an eye of course on the functioning of the battery. I know by experience that batteries can be very versatile. Sometimes the find their right behaviour after some tries, sometimes they never do. Concerning the WB options, , it is up to me to check and test and compare. About the strap, I know that nowadays some very thin materials can be very strong. You can catch a shark with a tiny nylon thread. But i agree, two points of support are better than one. Un grand merci! Edwin
jtori Posted April 16, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted April 16, 2011 Congratulations on your new X1. I think you will find it is a fine and capable camera. The behavior of your battery does not sound normal. Also, I have to concur with wda: I believe my WB was set on auto at delivery. It may be worth checking to see how many actuations your camera has had (easy to see from file numbering). If you have reason to suspect the camera has been opened or used, I would request an exchange. I also own the Leica wrist strap and agree that the strap is strong but the string looks flimsy. My experience is that it is strong enough, however, I never let the camera dangle; I hold it by the handgrip. Â Best, Â Joe.
spylaw4 Posted April 17, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted April 17, 2011 Re battery charging: One should always charge a new battery fully - preferably overnight - then run it down completely until it just won't operate the camera. Do this at least two and preferably three times. The battery can then be used with partial charges for quite a while. Repeat the initial charge/discharge once every year (just one charge should suffice). Â Seems to me your battery could be faulty - get it changed FOC by your dealer asap. Â Oh - and as far as I can see the vital hex number for shutter actuations is not recorded in the EXIF.
robert blu Posted April 17, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted April 17, 2011 Welcome to the Forum Edwin ! As for the WB my one was set to auto. And the battery keep power last much longer (after 2 or 3 charging cycles). If not probably there is a problem. I hope to see some of your pictures soon. robert
Allnm Posted April 17, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted April 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Edwin. Check the firmware version. If this was part of the retailers stock when the V2 firmware came out, they may well have ungraded the firmware and given it a test afterwards. Â If its V1, it could have been a demo, return, or just checked out by the retailer before despatch. You could always ring them and ask why when new cameras are sold the WB is set to auto but why was yours set to cloudy. Ask if it was a demo or return. Â The shutter count could be a clue unless it was reset to zero in the menu. I dont think there is a way to tell total shutter count like on most dslr cameras. Â Have fun with the new toy. M.Furo Posted April 17, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted April 17, 2011 I took 19 pictures and tested the camera on its various functions for some two hours. After that the battery indicator flashed red. Is that normal? I'll be contrary and say "yes" (it might be): It's a small battery. Screen use is definitely something you want to minimise if you have far to an electrical socket, so power management settings are important to get right. prager Posted April 17, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted April 17, 2011 Hi Edwin, welcom! I just bougt a LX1 with the Luigi Leicatime halfcase. This case is expensive but worth all the money. Ik protect the camera, has a firm leader strap an will cover the LCD screen wen you put it away or use a viewfinder. I save you the money for the handgrip and a lcd protector !
