It would be interesting to see how long it takes people to get their new lens..

I'm going to get on a list for the 50 lux but would be interested to see how long it takes for other lenses.

Also.. are prices at all Leica dealers the same for new lenses?

$3695 for the 50 lux at B&H.

I must say I've gone through the tunnel of drug addiction of the Leica lenses right after buying my M8. I've got all the lenses I needed in about a year. I mostly bought them used, often with good bargains (got a silver Lux 50/1.4 Asph for 1600 euros and a Lux 35/1.4 Asph for 1300). I've sold those I did not use and now I have more or less all the lenses I like.

And I'm almost out of the tunnel :D

Located an M9 in June last year within a week of hunting and had a 50/2, 28/2, 18/3.8 and 75/2 (all new) by July....... if you cast your net wide enough you can get what you want very quickly. Someone, somewhere will have it on a shelf..... phone or email all the Leica dealers listed on their website...... (for all of N America & Europe for starters)

I've picked up all the rest of the lenses I wanted either new/used (as new) as they came along since then with no difficulty.

The main problematic ones will be the new versions that are in high demand .... noctilux 0.95, 35/1.4 etc, but even with these there will be one out there if you hunt hard enough.... every dealer has them on permanent back-order and have buyers who are on multiple waiting lists so there is a chance that when delivered it may not have a home to go to. Leica Mayfair offered me a Noctilux before xmas as three had appeared all at once.......

Main problem is having the funds available to be able to pounce when something appears, as if you don't, someone else will......

I am still within Enricos 'year of addiction' and am sure I will also jettison some eventually when I have tried everything and realise what I NEED and not what I WANT.....:D

Took about 5 months for a 50 lux ASPH, and been waiting about 10 months for a 35 lux ASPH II. Have other lenses in the same focal length, so not in a hurry. Took advantage of currency rates (-20-35% off list), so a wait is in order versus the option of making dozens of phone calls.

And yes, all dealers I know who are official Leica dealers sell the lenses for the same price in our area. Same as B&H and Adorama. We've seen threads noting higher prices charged in other countries.

My story is much the same as the others who have replied above. I bought most of the lenses I wanted over the last year soon after buying my used M8.2 in December 09, mostly used ones from sellers in RFF, GetDPI, and here at LUF, and a few new ones from dealers.

When I decided to purchase an M9 about 2 months ago I was able to buy a refurbished demo body within two weeks of beginning my search. That purchase in turn triggered a search for the 50 Lux ASPH, the 75 Cron ASPH, and the 90 APO-Cron ASPH, all of which I was able to buy over the following two weeks. Like the Lord on the seventh day, I'm now resting...

As has been said, it just takes persistence in your search, along with available funds to move quickly when you find what you are looking for, and I suppose a modicum of luck as well. Good luck and keep at it!

Regards, Jim

But Enrico, you need 28mm & 40mm Summicrons, only then you will have two of everything :)

Cheers

Yes it should be the same across all dealers (if they are leica dealers). My first and only lens is actually the 50 lux. it took me only 2 weeks to get it and called 4 dealers to be on the wait list.

Try calling the Pro shop for Photographers (it's a leica boutique The ProShop for Photographers 561.253.2606 ) and they have in my opinion priority over get the lenses. a week before the pro shop called me, I spoke with someone from Dale Photo and they told me they expect shipment from leica the following week...happened that ProShop called me....

Hope that helps !

I just strolled into our local Leica dealer, and they had some stock:

S2 with Summarit-S 70 lens

black & grey M9s

Full range of Summarit-M lenses, black and chrome Summicron-M 35mm, Elmar 90 macro kit

Most I've seen in a while. The S2-P (body only) was NZD 44,000 (USD 34,900) and the Summarit-S 70 was NZD 8,000 (USD 6,400). B&H lists the camera for USD 28,000 and the lens for USD 5,000

It pays to shop around ...

Well, I'm delighted to post that I finally received my Black Summilux 50mm today. Strictly loyal to my local authorised Leica dealer, the order was first placed on 13 April 2010. From which date and to the best of my ability, I practiced patience. Not exactly my strongest attribute.

But as time went by, so too did my wailing and gnashing of teeth escalate. Then remarkably, hey presto, it finally arrived today - a mere 343 days later.

While I appreciate NZ may be a small market compared to the US or SE Asia, such incomprehensible delays don't exactly engender warm fuzzy feelings towards Leica. Although to be fair, if I shaft home responsibility where it might well belong, it leaves one wondering more about how effective the commercial relationship is between Leica and its NZ distributor.

But no matter - tonight I feel forgiving. It's in the bag and from Friday, with an M9, M3 and IIIf will be in Central Otago for a one week Autumn photo shoot. A brief escape from the trauma of Christchurch and immersed in one of NZ's most amazing landscapes in one of it's most spectacular seasons, the best is yet to be.:)

Amount of search effort + bit of luck is directly proportional to success in finding new exotic models; just last week in casual conversation with one of UK national camera dealers i was told Lux 50mm is available in stock, i could have purchased it on the day and brag about it today. Few days later found almost new sample for sale with other UK London based dealer, he was telling me all about long waiting times keen to sell me the one sitting on his shelf.

Happy without Lux 50mm at the moment as I am currently short of £2300 to buy one plus Elmar 50mm is such a nice lens at this FL.

Regards,

Mladen

My wife is buying me a 50 lux for my birthday (she must love me) and ordered it on 8th April. She was advised today that it has been posted and she should receive it tomorrow. 13 days from order to delivery seems reasonable.

As regards pricing in the UK it costs £2300 =US$3770 so prices are comparable bearing in mind that it includes VAT(value added tax) which recently was increased to 20%.

It seems that there is not much difference in Leica prices between USA and UK.

Prices of lenses and cameras made by the Japanese manufacturers tend to be considerably cheaper in USA than in UK.
