Next would be how to deal with the firmware. Â But, I wonder if it is at all feasible. Â ....Vick

adan Posted April 10, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted April 10, 2011 A bit more detail - sensors are thicker than film (all that glass on the front) - the DMR sensor could be used on a film-oriented camera because the cropped sensor fitted INTO the 24 x 36mm film gate/shutter opening. Â A FF sensor would only fit BEHIND the film gate, leaving the imaging surface well behind the point where the lens was focused. A great way to get all your pictures out of focus. Â Only way around this would be major surgery to move the lens mount back a couple of mm, and raise the focus screen a couple of mm - to keep both in sync with the changed location of the sensor's imaging plane. Which would render the camera permanently unusable for film. Â Between the surgery, the sensor itself, all-new circuitry to handle the different data volume (which means hiring your own pet hardware engineer for 6 months at $8,000 per month) - AND new firmware (which means hiring your own pet software engineer for 6 months at $5,000 per month), the result would cost more than an S2 and complete lens set. For lower IQ.
