mafoofan Posted April 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking at buying a 5000ED scanner advertised as a late production model. It has a serial number beginning with 22. Does that sound accurate? The serial numbers on most of the 5000EDs I see start with a 4. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Hi mafoofan, Take a look here Nikon 5000ED serial numbers: production time?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
budrichard Posted April 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2011 You are are correct. My 5000Ed purchased new as they were about to be discontinued from an AD in the US, serial # starts with a 4. The difference in the price from new to used was about 2-3 hundred dollars at the time and therefore used was not worth the savings.-Dick
mafoofan Posted April 6, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted April 6, 2011 Thanks, b. That's odd, though. I am 99% certain the unit in question was purchased from an authorized dealer within the past couple of months. Perhaps old stock? Assuming this is an older unit, should I be aware of any difference in quality or functionality versus units made later on?
budrichard Posted April 7, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 7, 2011 Don't know although there were different models with 5000 in the name I believe. Hard to believe one of these was sitting around for years in an AD showroom. Good luck-Dick
