Dust on the screen under the glass

-Hello. I want to ask here for what reason. Its Leica X1 I bought six months ago and now noticed that under the glass on the screen appeared a small amount of dust. The camera is operated carefully transferred in a good airtight cover Lovepro. Looking at the camera, any gaps I have not discovered. Has anyone else experienced this and how you think, whether it is covered by warranty? :( P.S. - It is very unpleasant for the camera for 2000. My Canon G10, which is already 4 years old and who was with me in many tourist adventures in the forest, rivers and on city streets do not have a single speck of dust on the screen.

I wouldn't be happy with dust under the rear lcd cover. I am assuming that you have not put a screen protector on the rear screen and the dust is under that and that it really is dust, not scratches on the surface.

If it was me, I would be contacting either Leica or the retailer with a view to sending it back.

If the dust is under the lcd screen cover it is not sealed properly and could lead to further problems in time.

Could it be possible you have dust on the lens, and you're just seeing it on the screen or do you still see the dust when the camera is off?

Also, if you bought the camera used, are you sure there isn't a screen protector on it?

I've had a lot of problems with dust getting into LCD's and lenses. My working hypothesis at this point says it has to do with static electricity and items the LCD or lens comes into contact with. Definitely don't let any common tissue paper such as kleenex (which sheds a lot of dust) come into contact with LCD's or lenses. And before putting the camera into any larger bag or pocket, make sure it's in a small, sealed bag that "just" fits the camera.

..if not under the screen protector and under the glass, this reminds me of the dreaded "coffee stain" well documented over in the m8 forum, you can doa search. it happened to my m8.2. i'm no scientist but somehow the hermetic seal of the glass cover and led mon is broken or faulty and electrostatic charge draws tiny particles of dust in. you can really see it if you shine a bright torch obliquely over the surface. over a long period of time it forms a sort of ring or stain, whether you keep the camera in a bag and use it carefully or not. i sent my m8.2 in for repair under warranty and leica duly solved the problem without a fuss.

I had this with my first M8. Send it to Leica, it's a quick fix, and it's covered by the warranty.

...Is interesting what a way to mount a protective glass LCD - an adhesive or may be double-sided tape? This glass is mounted inside or outside? ... The fact that the guarantee is not eternal, and with such a trifle as the dust on the screen, I would like to be able to understand, not sending the camera to the service. I would be grateful for your opinion on this issue.

The question I asked about ways of mounting a protective glass for Leica X1 has received an unexpected continuation. Today, taking the camera from its case, I found that the protective glass flew from his seat and just lay almost on the diagonal back wall. Well, I got that camera up screen, otherwise the glass would fall just on the pavement, with unpredictable consequences. The first, and quite a natural reaction you know what, but then I thought it was a real chance to deal with dust, which is accumulating on the screen under the glass, it is very irritating. Fixing of glass was very simple, something like a strip of adhesive tape or double on the perimeter. That's all. Apparently, my copy was of poor bonding and non-uniform, and across the gap which penetrate the dust. Now I think that the best-use some glue or double-sided tape is best to use?

- With such a problem can be overcome without the service, I cut four strips double sided tape and pasted them on the protective glass screen, taking care that there was between the strips of slits through which again could penetrate the dust.

Leica's LCD screens have had this problem for a while. I first noticed this when I was shooting my M8 in some unpleasant environments (certain parts of northern/western China that are highly susceptible to sand storms) and then later with my X1.

My remedy was to gaff tape the sides of the display. Sure it's not pretty, but if you take the care/attention to apply the tape properly, it is hardly noticeable.
