S2 with non Leica lens: questions

Recently I have a chance to mount the non-Leica lens onto S2 using an adaptor.

However, I found the focusing indicator spot and arrows are not working in the viewfinder of S2, and the error signal "!" signal is keep flashing.

My original thought is that the S2 focusing indicator should be working similar to Nikon, but sounds like S2 is not.

I just want to know whether this is normal or not?

Is there anyone who try non-Leica lens on S2 and have different or similar experience to me for sharing?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, this is normal S2 behavior. I've spoke to Leica about the issue and I'm hopeful it will be addressed in the next firmware update. Focus confirmation would be a big help, although I haven't had any issues personally when using non-Leica lenses on the S2. The viewfinder and focusing screen are bright and clear and focusing manually has been very accurate for me.

Hi David,

The new firmware update just came out. I think the new firmware still have not addressed the issue with the focus confirmation of manual lens, right?

Do you think the focus confirmation issue can be solved through updates of firmware? Or actually S2 will never support the focus confrimation because of the S2 design?

Thanks,

Correct. The current firmware still does not have focus confirmation for non-Leica lenses on the S2.

Yes, this can and should be fixed in future firmware. It is not a limitation of the camera's design.

Hi David,

Thanks for the information.

How can I discuss this issue with the Leica staff?

Do you have any link so that I can also ask them to address this focus confirmation issue?

Thanks,

Thanks,

If you wish to send me an email at david@dalephotoanddigital.com, I'd be happy to forward it to the right people at Leica.

Rest assured though that I've spoken with the S2 product managers about this issue on several different occasions and was told that it will be resolved via firmware.

David
