I have to ask....how did you "lose" the button?

I doubt it will be available as a spare from a third party supplier and I assume there will be some dismantling of the camera to fit it.

But, you could contact your local Leica dealer to see if they have one.

I now just found it but it is damaged.

It just bounced off the camera along with the spring. I took a picture of it with my D-Lux 3. As seen, one of the two plastic “hooks” is damaged/wear off and the button will not attached to the camera for this reason.

I will then contact my local Leica dealer to get a replacement.

I feel sorry for you, but this issue is very weird! I mean WTH? Maybe the button has a factory defect. An expensive camera shouldn't had a plastic shutter :(

I agree, maybe I should buy several buttons for spare if they start to ”pop off” :D

It looks as if the new button will just press in, so a new button, if you can get one should be a simple fix. I assumed it was going to be an extravagantly over engineered piece of metalwork. Clearly not!

Did you get the broken bit out though? It may lodge in somewhere if it is rattling about in there.

I also wonder if it is worth sending the camera and button in to Leica to fix as it is clearly a manufacturing defect. They may want to know this has happened.

My shutter has a lot of swivel / play in it. I can put my finger on it and wiggle it around. That's disappointing. I can also wiggle the switch. They did tighten the hell out of the dials on the last repair though- those click like they want to kill someone now.

In accordance to my local Leica dealer the camera has to be sent them for the replacement of a new shutter release button. The shutter release button is not available as a separate spare part….

Just to give everyone an idea as to how small Leica is- I sent an inquiry email to technicalinfo@leicacamerausa.com asking about touchup paint, and I got this instant response:

"Subject: Out of Office AutoReply: Leica X1 touch up paint

Thank you for contacting Leica Camera Inc. There may be a delay in responding to your inquiry but please be assured that every effort will be made to reply as quickly as possible. Your patience is very much appreciated."

I guess it's his birthday!

Thats not good.

Just to even things up a bit, I sent an enquiry email to Leica in the UK. Within an hour I had a phone call from them to discuss my query. ( I asked about the new Firmware and likely release date and a couple of questions about camera operation.)

I had a conversation with a Leica employee for about half an hour who put me at ease with my camera. A few days before the firmware came out I had another call telling me the Firmware was due out, gave me the date and ran through the new improvements. A day after the firmware was released I got another call asking if I had updated my camera and what i thought of it.

I think thats pretty good service!

An excellent response. My faith in UK support is restored.

Today I received back my Leica x1 after the shutter release button replacement. My Leica service provider (here in Norway) used only two days from receiving the camera, repair it and sending it back. Excellent service I think.
