How much better is the M9 than the M8?

I like this (quite old now) M9 review by Kevin Moloney.

A Working Photojournalist’s Review of the Leica M9

In it he states that you can't see the difference in quality between M9 and M8 from high quality magazine double-page spreads.

I'm reminded of an article I read many years ago about a deer hunter who used an old WW2 style M1 carbine. A friend told him of a local gun dealer who had new rifles in stock at very reasonable prices and why didn't he buy one? "What for?" said the hunter, "You can only kill them so dead".

Mike.

This whole statement is a load of crop... which is something you cannot do much of with a M8 on a double-page spread....

But anyway, the rub came when I wanted a Film back up camera for my M8. Well the conflict was always there my M7 vs M8. I had different set of lenses for each. It drove me nuts. When the M9 was announced I was already third in line at my dealer. I sold my M8 for a second M9, six months later. It is really nice having a 16mm WATE, and my 12mm CV is a real trip... AND I can shoot with with a 90mm with out a tripod, before I could only shoot up to a 75mm, which makes a big difference with my Macro 90.

Basically Leica Lenses are designed around a FF image. IMHO anything less is a compromise.
