35mmSummicron Posted March 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Was wondering if anyone had experienced problems with their Sandisk SD cards not recognizing with the SD card reader for the iPad. I have an iPad2 with the iPad camera connector kit, trying to import Leica M9 compressed DNG's. I'm primarily using a pair of Sandisk Extreme III 8gig class 6 SDHC 30mb edition cards to shoot w/my M9. (these are 2 generations old--Sandisk to my knowledge have since released a class 10 version of this card, then rebranded as Sandisk Extreme). When I plug in the card, the iPad does not recognize the card. -I have tried reformatting the cards in camera. I have tried setting to uncompressed, and DNG+JPG. nothing. -The same cards however will read perfectly fine if I use the iPad USB adaptor with a USB SD card reader. -The iPad SD card reader will work perfectly fine with my other SD cards of smaller capacity, so I've ruled out the iPad SD card reader as being problematic. I have never had any issue with these SD cards. .....thoughts? Welcome, dear visitor! Walt Calahan Posted March 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2011 First off, the image shows the card is in the "Locked" position. Have you tried the card after unlocking it?
35mmSummicron Posted March 27, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 27, 2011 Hi, The card is actually in the unlocked position, but yes, I have tried and still no-go. ps. locking an SD card just prevents the card from being deleted accidentally. It should not impede from reading/importing data.
mustafasoleiman Posted March 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 28, 2011 I use the new class 10 version with an iPad 2 without any problems... Maybe the card reader is dirty?
prk60091 Posted March 29, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2011 sometimes on my ipad1 the camera connector doesn't seat in the slot perfectly and it doesn't get recognized then. (the apple case interferes at times with the slot) otherwise my version of that card works fine w/my x1 and ipad1 if that isn't the problem- have you considered the possibility that the card isn't what it says it is (ie a forgery?) where did you purchase it??? lumen Posted March 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2011 Hello, although not quite an ipad 2 I am experiencing problems with the inbuilt SD card reader on my Macbook Pro. The card is a (legitimate) Sandisk Extreme type III (4GB 30MB/s edition) and the reader's details show up in the profiler as: Built in SD Card Reader: Vendor ID: 0x05ac Product ID: 0x8403 Revision: 1.00 Whether these readers are of the same batch/manufacturer I'm not sure, but its something that would be very desirable to get to the bottom of- particularly as this is a recent issue with the cad not being recognised. I hope that this information might be of some use. Regards
35mmSummicron Posted March 31, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted March 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Borrowed a friend's IPad camera connector kit and tried these cards w/his iPad SD reader. Same thing happened (iPad didn't recognize SD card, but read my other SDHC class 6 cards). Guess it's these two particular Sandisk Extreme III cards that don't play nice w/my new iPad, which I find odd as these are (were?) the most reliable/flawless SD I have....... As others have pointed out their Sandisk Extreme cards work fine, so I'm hoping when I grab some new ones, this won't be a prob. Thx Andy
