M8 Newbie Question

Hi,

I've just brought my first leica M8 with a good price today.

All things good, seller is good, the camera condition is really good.

After I use all the battery, I put it in the battery charger.

According to the manuel, both charge light and power light should be on.

But I can only see a very weak green light, this weak green light is on even I doesn't plug in to the power slot.

I keep trying to charge it, after few hours i put the battery back to the camera. The camera "beep" and doesn't show anything so I think that the battery can't charge.

Is there anyone have this question before? Although the camera have been used 2 years, but the shutter count only 3xxx. I think the battery will not "dead" so soon.

Thanks

have you made sure the clip that connects the plug socket to the charger is properly seated ? (try taking it off and on).

I also had this problem but it was solved when I put and took off the clip

The latest charger (M8.2 and M9) is a better design, so pick one up even if you get it working.

If you can't get it working tak it back to the dealer. If you are lucky they will fund a new one and you can keep the same camera

SInce it's a used m8 so I can't find the dealer, the previous owner said we will meet again to solve this question (Since he didn't have this problem before)

Thank you :)

The seller said the camera doesn't come with the charger.

I think I should buy a new battery charger in order to use this fantasy camera this weekends.

Is there any way or brand is cheap for the battery charger ?

(I live in Sydney)

Unfortunately not.

Once you are in leica world, best to stay with original.

You can always look on eBay...

Obviously too late for you, and I am sure you will be fine but best to buy 2nd hand from a dealer with guarantee.

Best of luck

First you said you bought the camera and used the charger. But the charger didn't work. Then in this last post you say the seller said the camera doesn't come with the charger.

Well what is it?

You bought the camera and the charger doesn't work? You didn't buy the camera and if you do it doesn't come with a charger?

Any digital camera that does NOT include a working charger is not a camera at all. It is a DOOR STOP.

Yes there are other chargers out there. But none work as well or as easily as an original charger.

Sorry for my poor expression.

I brought a used m8 with the battery and charger.

The charger is not work properly. I ask the seller whether it come with the car charge cable (Since someone said that he have the same case with me and he can charge it by the car charge cable). But the seller said it doesn't come with the CAR charge cable.

BTW, the seller is very responsible and good. He said we will check the charger together this wednesday. If it's sure that the charger/battery doesn't work, he'll refund me for a new charger/battery. What a nice guy.

Well yes he does seem to be a nice guy. The original charger, if you could find one, is about $130 US. The newer charger that comes with, It think, M8.2 & M9 is about $160+ US.

Best practice is to plug the charger into a wall outlet then insert the battery into it. Then after charging remove the battery then unplug the charger from the wall outlet.

Could be you've blown the fuse in a AC circuit by putting the battery in the charger before plugging it into the wall outlet.

Thanks for your info. In fact I saw some white bright light inside of the battery

Sometimes after I pull it out from the wall outlet, when I touch the connection metal, I feel some eletric which I little bit hurt (<- I don't know how to use english to say that:p)

Anyway, thankyou very much:) I would buy the M8.2 charger if the seller refund to me.

Is this a possibility?? I have never heard of that before and certainly have not experienced any problems by putting the battery into the unplugged charger.

doesn't make any difference whether you put the battery in the charger whilst it is plugged in, or not

probably more convenient to put it in the charger and then plug in anyway

Not sure. I do know that several people have had the wall current side fuse blow on those chargers and still the 12 volt side works. Putting the battery in first could draw more current through the fuse when first plugged in.

Just a thought.

Bosswong:

Are you sure the electrical outlet you are using works? Have you plugged anything else into that outlet?

Suggestion: try plugging charger into another outlet.

Good luck!

I've tried the outlet @ home, uni, my friend house, shopping mall, library already

It still not work:cool: Maybe I should buy a new charger

Just find out some cheap leica new charger on the market, will get it probably.

The charger @ sydney cost around 280USD, but i saw a lot of seller in US seller the same one for 150USD. WTF...

Is there any m8 user in sydney can help me to try whether my charger is not work or the battery?? Thanks anyway
