strange post. liking the X1 at the same time hating it. you ramble about its shortcomings and you praise its excellent qualities. i own an X1 and i do recognize that it's not a perfect camera but it serves my purpose that's why i bought and enjoy. there are pros and cons to everything, consumer electronics in particular.

i don't get what you're driving at.

There isnt a complete camera yet.

CJ

The X1 is not complete? It does everything - takes photos auto or manual, has a screen for review, uploads to computer. What could be missing?

Another thread again proving that Leica owners are more susceptible to silly trolls and master pontificators than any other consumers on the internet....yawn.

Can't we get a long, rambling post on Leica's executive direction to put the frosting on this pile?

I was responding to another post...I suppose when talking about "completeness" he was talking about perfect. or maybe lack of interchangeable lens, wahtever...who knows?

Dear Phancj

Is it really that difficult to understand that some of us think X1 should have been designed and manufactured with more care.

Many people agree that X1 is a lot more comfortable with the handgrip.

Many people including Leica agree that the dials are loose.

Many people agree that manual focus was useless until the new firmware came along.

These people also agree that it produces the best images in it's category so do I.

I picture you as a kid sucking on his first candy, I have no doubt that it tastes wonderful and that it's the best candy in the whole world. And No, I don't mind the fixed lens. Without it it probably wouldn't be pocketable.Thank you and and welcome back to this thread. I knew you couldn't ignore it for long.

No it doesn't. They have improved them. That's a good thing.

Andy you're looking at a great many number of posts everyday and it's confusing you.

Why would I say it's a bad thing. It's a great thing. But there is no reason to congratulate them.

In your words the issue with the firmware and the dials is a "fix". They were faulty and they are fixed and usable now. So it does prove my point that this camera left the factory with non-leica standards. I also do not agree that the dials are fixed, mine isn't , it still has to take a trip to the factory. I never got a mail saying they will fix it without charge and also pay for delivery costs. Did you?

No. I don't own an X1. And they weren't faulty. But they could have been improved. And they were.

Please don't start attacking me, or accusing me of being confused.

The downside of being an early-adopter for any product is that, sometimes, a manufacturer improves the product during its lifetime. That is why I never buy a first edition anything, be it a car, computer, iPhone or, dare I say it, camera. I let other people iron out the bugs and then buy the product that is fixed. I recommend this approach to anyone.

The up-side of being an early-adopter is that you get bragging rights on the street for being the first on your block with some new piece of kit. And you get to own that kit for a year longer than those who watch and wait and buy the fixed version. It's your choice - no one forces you to buy something the first day it's released.

I completely agree with you , and your way is definitely the smartest way to go.

On the other hand I wouldn't say loose dials and manual focus with wrong settings were things they "improved" upon , it was simply fixing two things that did not function right. If X1 was a car, it would be declared illegal to drive and would be called back by the manufacturer.

So they improved them. We agree.

Edit following an edit to the post above, after I'd posted my reply;

Rubbish. The X1 wasn't so bad it was dangerous. It had a firmware that has been improved this week to universal welcome and two dials which could usefully have been "clickier". These were also improved in later examples. Hardly Toyota brakes...

It's interesting that you took the car comparison literally.

Why wouldn't I? It would help if the forum software prevented editing of posts after someone has replied too... I see you have edited yours again even since I replied.

yes I added two "a" s. I also added the car comment to the other one but that was before you

answered. I don't think you are confused anymore. I really think you believe you X1 was improved not fixed. You are also saying that you did not use one before and use one after

those changes were made. You are accusing me of editing the main content of my comment and want me to please not attack you. I almost forgot, you are also a moderator on this forum.
