Paul139 Posted March 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have wanted an R8 for a few years and now I am in a position to get one. I also intend to get a 35-70mm f4 or 3.5 if I can't find a f4. The thing is I know about the delicate shutter and how easy it can be damaged and the fact that if a circuit board goes they are either difficult to find or expensive to repair, but this didn't worry me while I was saving up,but now I have the money I am getting cold feet. Are my worries justified or not. It will be used for general shooting no pro stuff so it won't get a hammering.
Advertisement Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hi Paul139, Take a look here I know this has been asked before ,but.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 24, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2011 The R8 was the best film SLR I ever used. They are ridiculously cheap now. If you want one, I'd say go for it. If I was still shooting film I'd get another myself.
andybarton Posted March 24, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2011 Me too. They are better balanced with a winder on the bottom, but great as they are. Just check that the meter works properly in all modes. They can be repaired by Leica, but it's cheaper to buy a replacement camera. New ones are still available btw. Paul139 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted March 24, 2011 Where do you think I could find one new? I was looking at Ffords and Red dot cameras.
