Singlemalt Posted March 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I was a bit reluctant to post this question as there are plenty of examples of workflow on this forum, and I've read through a number of them, but nothing quite answers what I'm after. I used to use LR exclusively and this worked for me well - but now I have this new shiny mac with Iphoto and I really like some of the features it offers - particularly "faces", slideshows, easy options to print and upload to facebook. What I don't like about Iphoto is the fact that it wants to copy all my files into one library. What I'm doing now is importing my shots with LR, processing them, and then saving an "export" version for emails and web stuff that I keep in a separate folder. I then import them into Iphoto and upload from there. This is fine except when I go to view as a slideshow or anything else in Iphoto, the quality of my web images are crap. I don't know if should increase the quality of my photos (which may make it harder to upload to facebook or a blog) vs. using Iphoto to look at my original DNG's (using the "keep files in original location option"). I don't really want to edit with Iphoto as I have become comfortable with LR. Any suggestions how I could improves this or make this more efficient? I don't want to duplicate too much information as I'm working from a laptop with limited HDD space. Previously I had my data on an external HDD and kept the web images on my computer - and backed up the external HDD. I have been seduced to some extent by having all my images on the HDD and backing up the whole lot. This is unlikely to be sustainable in the long term - I'm still trying to figure out what to do there... Thanks for any advice, SM.
Advertisement Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Hi Singlemalt, Take a look here Iphoto/Lightroom workflow - any suggestions on how to optimise?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Singlemalt Posted March 21, 2011 Author Share #2 Posted March 21, 2011 Hmm... I probably should have googled this a little harder. There is a lightroom to Iphoto plugin - Lightroom to iphoto export - Suffix which maybe what I have been looking for. It sounds like I just select the photo's I want and export to Iphoto and then I can use it to publish to the web or whatever from there and still use LR for all the photo editing. There is also a dpreview discussion on this - although it is a little old. Re: Lightroom & iPhoto Workflow: Mac Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review Still looking at it. Hopefully this maybe of use to someone else. SM.
