X1 Case For A Mounted Finder

I have the long-discontinued Leica leather case (14522) that was originally made for the M6 with the collapsible 50mm Elmar-M, but fits the X1 perfectly. The accompanying wrist strap is also ideal.

I don't know whether it would accommodate the Leica finder for the X1. I use a tiny Ricoh 28mm finder which fits OK. In theory it's too wide for the 35mm equivalent X1, but in real life it seems to be about right. I think the Leica finder is quite a bit bigger.

The 14522 case isn't common, but it may pop up on eBay or in dealers' shops from time to time.

I have been using the small Mountainsmith Focus II. It has plenty of room for the X1 with the finder attached and there is a zippered pocket that will hold an extra battery and sd cards. Also, the shoulder strap comes off with quick release attachments. This case is very functional, but it isn't in the same class as a Fogg or Billingham case.

I use the base of the Leica erc. Occasionally the whole case which has an attached matching strap-fitting case for the vf. Not perfect, but I find it a good compromise when the X1 is stored in a non-photo bag when out on non-photo business. It is there if I need it and is safe when not in use.

I have been using "TAD Gear" belt pouch for a year with the X1, it offers very good protection and is well-made. Not sure if it will fit with VF but there is strong chance since the top and sides have a fair amount of allowance.

Which Tad model are you using?

Kuau,

This one here. I just checked with my bare X1 there is a good 2 inches of extra room on top so probably the VF and grip will fit. The material is strong and hasnt aged a bit since I bought it. All in all I am 100% satisfied. When I first bought the X1 I went thru several belt packs and this is by far the best fit, width and thickness is almost exact (with a little room for finger to manouvre).

I bought it while in Bangkok but presume it will be more readily available in the States.

I am a great fan of the Lowpro Terraclime series as an everyday carryaround. Cannot recall the model number but the one I have is about 19cm wide and 15cm deep. Can be worn on the belt or over the shoulder. My X1 (new since yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!) fits it very well. Meant also to say the Teraclime seies is made from recycled materials and is very good value.

p.s. Just found the model number - Terraclime 50. I also have the Terraclime 100 which would give a bit more space and the advantage on an interior zipped pocket. I tend to use them with a Domke protective wrap inside to give a bit more protection.

Greetings Folks,

Really liking my X1. Only problem I have, is trying to find an ever ready type case that can accommodate a mounted external finder and the camera. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Edmond

Edmond, I bought a Lowepro Apex 100 AW when I toured in Switzerland. I used it as a belt bag and found it ideal configured the way you use the X1 camera. The camera is ready for use instantly and leaves you 'hands-free' when not shooting.

Normally I stow the camera with viewfinder inside an Artisan & Artist bag with my digital M and lenses. But the Apex 100 is ideal when traveling light.

That Lowepro was the one I used before I got the TAD Gear. I found the Tad Gear a little more protective and the size more correct. But the Lowepro was also good.

I stay away from leather in this tropical climate coz mould is an issue and can affect the lens if housed all the time. If I am not mistaken most camera companies warn customers of this.
