imported_peter_m Posted January 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was a discussion on here somewhere on how the M6 meter evolved over the years but can't find it. If I recall correctly the meter been upgraded over the production, dose some remember the details? Was just wondering if there be an advantage in getting a more recent M6 then the older ones. Advertisement Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Hi imported_peter_m, Take a look here M6 meter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted January 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2007 Peter, the later M6's had a more sensitive meter than the early ones. I think I recall that the LEDs on the later ones blinked if the light was below the minimum that the meter could handle. So if you half press the shutter with the lens cap on (i.e. no light getting through) and the LEDs blink you have a more sensitive meter.
TimF Posted January 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2007 Indeed. I'm open to correction, but think the change occurred around 1989.
imported_peter_m Posted January 28, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted January 28, 2007 Thank you Steve and Tim, That is what I remember as well the later ones had the more sensitive meter unless of course an older one was upgraded. Anything from 1990 up should have the more sensitive meter. To many choices with the film M the digital guys got it a lot easier in that regard they only have one Peter
dfbldwn Posted January 30, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 30, 2007 Peter, My circa 1985 M6 recently got the newer meter when it went to "sherrykrauter-dot-com" for Clean-Lubricate-Adjust. So you don't have to restrict yourself to the newer M6 cameras to get the upgraded meter. I am delighted with the newer meter, I can now meter in low light situations where the original meter refused to function. I can see why Leica neglected to inform us owners of the wider metering range. I'd've never purchased an M7 if I'd known the wide metering range was already available to us "classic" M6 owners. I cannot succeed in finding anyone who will retrofit my M6 with the diodes and meter circuitry that are available in the MP. David
imported_peter_m Posted January 31, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted January 31, 2007 Thank you David, Chances are if a older camera had some service work it might have the newer meter. Peter
