What now for the Leica X1 ?

Perhaps I should have left out the reference to the X100 :(

However as I said this has nothing to do with a camera comparison , more of the marketing of a product which I am saving up to buy. I have read numerous posts , the majority circular and contradictory on the X1 , but still I find this camera to be attractive for my current usage.

I want this product and company to succeed , as I like it's history, however to succeed they need a plan ... we are not privy to their plan, but it would be interesting to see your views on how they can swing "this" around.

So far I have one valid answer "slowly" :) which I appreciate.

I believe in most cases, looking for validation of a purchase on a forum will just lead one to buy a product they are never fully satisfied with. Then, they'll come to Internet forums to nitpick said item to death. It doesn't matter the product, I see this on the guitar forums all the time. If you want something and you feel it meets your needs, buy it. If you don't, then don't.

If you can't be 100% convinced, I don't think looking to a forum to convince ourselves in the purchase of an item like this is the best of plans...

i don't think solms have ever been this careless. i think the real immoral thing would be to bash a camera you actually don't know about. i'm glad the germans have a sense of humour about leica's new image. it used be a matter of pride for them. i believe that has came to sad end.

we buy the closest item for our needs. i don't know of a camera this size that produces such nice images. then again i don't know of a camera this expensive that comes with so many handicaps. generally complaints lead to better or at least cheaper products. forums are good for this sort of thing don't you think.

I've had my X1 for 2 months now, I dont recall ever coming across any handicaps? It appears to work just as I expected it to. Its not perfect but then its not a perfect world, I dont think any item ever produced is perfect for everyone.

Leica bashing is just a fact of life and is seen in many forums ( fora?) mostly from people who never owned one.

Wouldnt it be funny if when the X100 ( sorry, camera brand X) comes out, there are people who find things wrong with it then demand a firmware upgrade to fix it. I have heard rumours that the AF is somewhat slower than the much cheaper Lumix GF1, IQ is poor at wider apertures ( Fuji actually tells you it is sharper stopped down and has been designed like that) and battery performance is poor powering both a large LCD and the EVF.

How will all those people feel that have pre ordered it and caused this shortage if it doesnt perform?

You're completely overlooking the emotional part of the buy. If you believe this doesn't exist, you are wrong.

Of course forums are good for vetting out issues with product, but you're missing my point. If an individual allows a group of forumites to influence their decision, for something they aren't really sure about, what happens next? They could be perfectly happy, or they could be let down, and unhappy with the purchase. I don't need someone to convince me of technical specs, I can read them for myself. I can view the images for myself, etc...

What "product x" should I buy is always a dangerous question to ask...

Not too long ago I read an interview with some Leica product guy in which he indicated that the general market niche of the X1 is an area that Leitz wants to develop. They need a camera with an F2 lens, with fast focusing and maybe a bigger sensor. This would be an attractive product. The X1 already has an impressive file, but has some real weak points that it does not take a genius to fix,
