Contrast and balance

I am member of a group of photographers who meet about once every month to discuss our photographs. We normally formulate a challenge or a theme to work with between our meetings. The next time it will be contrasts and balance. Here are two pictures on the theme of balance and also contrast. I feel that there is better balance in the first one, but the second is more interesting as there is a path into the forest. Comments are welcome!

Hi Stig,

Thanks for posting. I find the first image the better picture.

In the second the tree tops are cut off too early.

I think if you stepped back a few yards - if you can - the second image could be both more interesting and the better image.

Best, K-H.

Thanks Paul, K-H and Herb four your comments.

I printed the first image on A3 semi glossy paper using my Epson2880 and is very pleased with the results. This was the first A3 print I have made with files from my recently bought M9. It is simple amazing that you can get so much details out of this little camera. I promised myself to make more large prints, it is the best way to use the results from such a fine camera.
