Scola77 Posted February 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) So here in Louisiana Mardi Gras season is upon us. I actually ride on one of the floats and handed my beloved X1 to the wife and let her play photographer. When I met up with her after the parade, she was in tears as she handed the X1 to me. "I did not do it, I swear!!" The worst words you can possibly hear. First thing I noticed was the lens was stuck in the out position. The camera would not turn on and was very hot to the touch. No physical damage, no scratches, no sign of abuse at all. She claimed she was able to fire one picture off and it stuck like that. I removed the battery and stuck the entire camera in the bag and waited until the next day (when I was a little more coherent and had access to a computer). The next day I recharged the battery and began searching LCF for anything about this. I plugged the battery back in and the lens retracted and everything came back to life. So obviously any troubleshooter out there would point to a low battery as the culprit. However, the battery was charged hours before the parade began and had full power when I handed it off to her. The camera was also hot to the touch, which is odd considering I have never felt heat radiate off the X1 before. Has anyone experienced an issue like this before? Advertisement Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hi Scola77, Take a look here Ok, here is a new one (strange issue). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mr_Jones Posted February 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2011 Yes, I've had this happen three times in 4 months. I've spoken to Leica Mayfair and they suggested I bring it in and they would reload the firmware (with same version sadly!). The solution has been remove battery and replace, then the lens retracts normally. I'm not too happy about it and will consider returning mine for repair, it's just very difficult to reproduce as it has happened maybe 1 in 1000 actuations. Scola77 Posted February 28, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2011 I just got mine back from repairs (faulty pop-up flash) and apparently they did a complete testing of the camera. This makes me believe it is software based. Maybe we should just wait for 2.0 firmware to come out.
