RT_NEY Posted February 20, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted February 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just recieved my X1 Black, feels nice, a bit thicker than I imagined, have been shooting Nikon D700, D300, Canon S90....Pretty much an easy menu to go through. Just shot some basic inhouse and out the window...patience is the key here. Put the SD card on my comp...not really impressed so far as my S90 is pretty decent. Â I will test drive it further tonight and tomorrow..........I'm sure (hope) that I'm happy with it as I have 1Terabyte of pics already in my collection. So it's not that I don't have an eye or my settings are wrong........I'm waiting for the creme de la creme opportunity to come, so I can say what it is, IS. wda Posted February 20, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted February 20, 2011 Rick, perhaps a little too early to post an assessment of your X1. Give it time and tackle more 'real world' situations as subjects. Â Like many new cameras, it does take time to master and make the most of the camera's excellent features. I enjoy a picture a day challenge when conditions are not ideal or time is too short to embark on a serious photographic session.
spylaw4 Posted February 20, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted February 20, 2011 You will of course have charged the battery fully - preferably overnight? Let it run right down and repeat the process at least two more times.
h00ligan Posted February 20, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted February 20, 2011 I think you have to examine things more closely in a bit. I guess if you are putting it in auto and taking landscape shots in good light, then only viewing them in low resolution.. i could see the comparison.. however, I think once you take some time, you will see the difference between the two cameras is night and day. Â The x1 should be closer to the d90 quality than the s90 quality.. imo
phancj Posted February 21, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted February 21, 2011 The X1 is comparable to D300 and high iso performance is marginally higher IMO. Check out the shadow areas in low light shots and the D300 is murky. The X1 is much better in the shadow regions, the Nikon better in handling highlights. So as a general "rule" I underexpose for X1 if necessary(when lighting is tricky and risk highlights blown) , but cannot do the same for Nikon. Lost. Posted February 28, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted February 28, 2011 I have 1Terabyte of pics already in my collection. So it's not that I don't have an eye or my settings are wrong........ Â Â Â I had no idea that the volume of pics you have on a hard drive determines or proves a persons talent. If that's the case you should be using your eye for shooting with your fast rate DSLR in continuous frame mode to expand your vast collection faster instead of the much slower, more deliberate type of shooting the X1 offers. Â Good luck!
patrick parker Posted February 28, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted February 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) dear rick, Â there is no way on earth this little beauty can be mastered in the same sense as a ricoh grd or s90-95. it's simply not built with practicality in mind. the closest camera i can relate it to is the rollei 35. it fits in your pocket and if you are patient enough you can shoot great pictures of stuff that don't move. Ivan Muller Posted March 7, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted March 7, 2011 If your image quality was no better than s90, you were probably shooting jpegs.... Â I had a G10 and there is no comparison with X1 in every sense except that focus is faster. Â It took me about a month to come to grips with the workings of the X1 but my image quality was 100% right from the start.
