Hi guys,

I know that Lightroom is compatible with windows 7 64 Bit (the adobe homepage says so). But is unclear to me, if that is a special version.

Can I use my Lightroom I downloaded for Windows XP (32 Bit), i.e. the same installation file? Or would that be a different file. I am thinking of upgrading to windows 7 64 Bit, but only if that works.

Thank You!

Bernd

The 32bit version should have no problem working on Windows 7 64 bit but why not download the 64bit version anw?

I wonder if you can use your serial number to activate a 64 bit demo version of LR. You can download that for free from the adobe website.

Lightroom will automatically detect whether you are using 32 bit or 64 bit Windows and install the correct version. Unlike with Photoshop it will not install both versions. Your current original download should work fine for a new install. If there was any problem there a new download will work as long as you already have a licence.

In any event whenever you download a free update, you are actually downloading a full copy of the program again, not just updates. The licencing is the only constraint. Unlike with Photoshop (or Windows) there is no manual activation involved and you are not actually prevented from installing an extra copy. The restriction is only the EULA conditions.

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember the same. But confusingly, I also remember that you have the option to download a 32 or a 64bit version from the Leica website. Why have the option if it makes no difference?

I think that one of us may be mistaken on different versions to be downloaded :). There are Windows or Mac options though.

However the important point is that the source of the download does not matter (as long as you have the right OS). A free trial version or a previous download or an update to an already installed copy are all identical. It is only the licence that is important. A serial number obtained by going through Leica Camera's process (whether or not you actually downloaded the program itself from Adobe via the Leica Camera link) will work fine with a new installation. You get that serial number by using the TAN number and your camera serial number.

If you log in as a customer on the Leica Camera website and fill in the TAN number that came with your camera documents and the camera serial number you should be able to get the Adobe licence number sent to you again.

Or if you set up a free account with Adobe you can retrieve the records of everything that you have got from them there too.

It is all a bit of fiddling, but made necessary by fraud and software piracy.
