bkling Posted February 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently convert my Leica Elmarit 28mm R 2.8 to Canon FF DSLR. However, when take photo in infinity, the Canon prism mirror is hitting the rear protection shroud of Elmarit. After unscrew the metal shroud, everything worked fine and cleared the mirror. Just need some advice from forumer, what is the use of the rear shroud as it seems to work flawlessly without it in Canon body? Any issue to the lens alignment or the glass element i I use this lens for long term without the metal shroud protection? Some photo taken as below and if any forumer can advise? #1- Original Condition #2- Metal Shroud #3- After the shroud was removed Thanks

wildlightphoto Posted February 11, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2011 Looks like the primary function is to reduce the number of reflective surfaces in the mirror chamber. You might see a difference (or might not, depending on the particular circumstances) when there are bright light sources in or near the picture area.
