Realphotos Posted January 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have used Microsoft's Expression Media (on both PC & Macs) for years. I find it excellent in nearly every respect. Just one little question which I am sure some of you can answer. Virtually all files will open in EMedia, jpegs, Canon, Nikon Raws etc. Leica M9 DNGs only open as very small viewing files and Leica S2 DNGs (compressed or not) will not open at all. The nuisance is that I have to shoot jpegs on the S2 as well as the DNG so as I know whats on the DNG file. Surely there is a simple answer or work around? Advertisement Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Hi Realphotos, Take a look here Expressions Media & S2 DNG Files. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted February 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2011 Regarding the M9 I think on the import there's an option to rebuild the Jpegs rather than use the embedded ones. Somewhere in settings perhaps? Sorry for being vague, but it's a few years since I used Expression Media - and before that iView Media Pro. Could you use Adobe's DNG converter to convert the S2 files into a more widely version of DNG? I know converting DNGs to DNGs doesn't sound sensible, but it's what I used to do with M8 files. andybarton Posted February 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 3, 2011 Expression Media is one of those programs that is great. Until Microsoft get hold of it and let it wither on the vine before they eventually kill it off. It's no longer sold or supported, so will have little chance of viewing modern file formats. The Mac version -might- show DNGs, if EM uses the system level graphics code, but that's not 100% Time to move on, Neville
01af Posted February 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2011 Expression Media is one of those programs that is great. Until Microsoft get hold of it ... My sentiments exactly. It's no longer sold or supported, so will have little chance of viewing modern file formats. [...] Time to move on ... Not so fast! Actually, Microsoft Expression Media (formerly known as iView MediaPro) has been bought by Phase One and still is available for sale through them. Even old-time iVew MediaPro 3 owners who never bothered to upgrade to the Microsoft product now can upgrade to the current version—which is Expression Media 2 SP2—at a reduced price again. Currently, Phase One is working on the next upgrade to it which will improve integration with Capture One. Let's hope they'll keep the original iView DNA alive. Maybe it will change the name, too ... or maybe not. We shall wait and see.
