Wonderful workmanship and I think it complements the X1 beautifully. Â I have posted several photos of the X1 with the Leica lens ring and the new SK Grimes adapter in an album here on the LUG forum. Assuming all is well you can see photos of it at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/members/15925-albums4563.html . I'm including a photo of the two parts of the adapter below: Â Â The price (not including shipping) was $130 US. Since SK Grimes used my camera to take measurements for this adapter design I presume that they could use those same measurements to make a custom adapter if someone wanted one. To use a filter requires the adapter which means the camera is no longer as small as it started out. So it won't fit in the belt case I typically use (a National Geographic NG1152 IIRC) and there's no room to put the adapter and filter(s) in the case. So I've been searching for another belt case solution and may have found one. But at least I have a quick solution if a filter is needed. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Â No. The thread on the adapter is 52mm. I chose 52mm because I already have a slew of filters in that thread pitch. And that way the larger tube can be the same thread pitch throughout. Easier to make and, I suspect, cheaper. Â I'm not sure I understand the advantage of the two-piece design versus buying a one-piece adapter for $100 less. Â My thinking went like this. If I went with a one-piece adapter I would have to remove the Leica lens ring every time I wanted to use it. I lose things... Very easily... So with the two-piece adapter I still have a lens ring to hold the lens cap and then when I want to use the adapter all I have to do is attach it. It seemed like the way to go for me but YMMV. Â Leica produces a small camera with a large sensor that enables us to get dSLR quality images from something that will slip into a pocket. Despite all the X1's shortcomings, that is very good indeed. Â So someone then thinks, 'What a good idea it would be to stick huge viewfinders, even bigger lens shades, thumb grips (and so on) onto it'. Â Lo and behold, the once-slender camera is now almost as big as a dSLR without being as versatile (as you can't change the lens). Â The Jaguar E-Type did not have burr walnut picnic tables folding from the seats as the large saloons did. Aren't X1s meant to be slim, purposeful devices in the same mould? Two things, if your gonna spend the day trying to get the best images possible from the X1, the ability to adapt filters to it is critical polarizer, ND filters. Secondly, for rough stuff, this protects the element and the retraction mechanism. Â In less than 3 minutes, what goes on, comes off and goes back like it was, so where's the problem? Also I got this hood:  Metal 49mm Vented Curved Hood for Leica Leitz Lenses - eBay (item 320650676063 end time Mar-01-11 23:05:52 PST)  Although I would have preferred a square one like blood diamond  To address above said issue- I don't plan on using this all the time. Just on those bright summer days when I have my camera and nothing else. Daily pocket cam will still be adapter/hoodless because I love the pocketability.
