rgfenn Posted July 12, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone had the experience of converting the 800mm f6.3 telyt to use as a telescope? I am aware of the ocular R, but this little adapter has limitations such as not taking 2" or 11/4 eyepieces. What I was thinking of doing was taking off the last section of the lens(the lens comes in 3 pieces- the first has the optics, the second the body and the last has the diaphram and the lens mount) and replacing it with a tube that would attach to the middle section and have a 4" threaded end of screw into a 4" crayford focuser that is accept eyepieces or diagonals. I know there are going to be focusing at infinity issues and I was hoping another Leica user had already undertaken the same sort of challenge and could "lead the way". If you have any suggestions or can point me a direction that could help me I would appreciate it.
Advertisement Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Hi rgfenn, Take a look here 800mm f6.3 Telyt-S Telescope?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 12, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2006 I did have the 800 mm TELYT for some time years ago. At that time I had no TO-R thingy which - if I recall it correct - will fit without any problem to the R- bajonnet of the lens. In case you have the Visoflex version of the 800 mm TELYT just get the appropiate adapter which you can still obtain from LEICA. In case your need the productnumber, just ask here and i will look it up for you. The longest lens I have at the moment is a 280 mm TELYT which I use with delight together with an 2x Converter and the TO-R as a spective. Works fine for me. palaeoboy Posted July 13, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2006 What size eyepieces does the Ocular R take?
rgfenn Posted July 13, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted July 13, 2006 The ocular R has a fixed eye piece built into it. It is not interchangable. What I would like to do is modify the ocular R so that it will take a diagonal or create an adapter for the end of the lens so a diagonal will fit on it. Any thoughts? john_f Posted July 14, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2006 How about contacting Leica's Sport Optics dept. They have angled (diagonal) eyepieces for their Televid scopes: http://www.leica-camera.com/sportoptik/einsatzbereiche/vogelbeobachtung/televid62/index_e.html. Maybe they could help you in your project. BTW, the Ocular-R has a 4x magnification. Which means that used on the 800 Telyt f/6.3 (which has about 16x mag), you would get about 64x magnification.
