carlosecpf Posted January 13, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I bought a 2nd hand M8u (framelines and saphire glass) and received it 3 days ago. The camera is in "like new" cosmetic condition and has a shutter count of 1787 and has the 2.004 firmware installed. I took about 20 test shots around the house in the past 2 days and decided to take it with me for commute today. The camera was working fine and I took some shots in my way to my office. All of a sudden, the shutter stopped working. I pressed it, but I could not see the exposure value in the viewfinder and the shutter didn't fire. Also none of the buttons in the back seems to work... when I press them, nothing happens (menu, set etc). I thought I ran out of battery, but whenever I press the shutter half-way, the little red LED light under the LCD blinks. I believe this shows that there is some battery left. I don't have the charger with me now, but I will try recharging the battery once I get back home. I tried taking the battery off and putting it back on, but it didn't help. Have anyone experience this before? Is it a hardware problem? Hopefully this is only a discharged battery problem. Thanks in advance! Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Out for a walk one Sunday morning, Temp about 37f. Freshly charged battery. Took about 10-20 shots over a period of about a hour and then nothing. I know better. I was surprised by the camera since it did not warn me that it was running out of battery. It seems that the Leica M8 is not a regular digicam... for the good or for the worse. Thanks all!!! Same happened to me but I was ready from reading reports of this on this forum. But in any event I usually take a extra battery, or 2, with me. Glad it's still working. jtorrents Posted January 14, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 14, 2011 The first time my M8 refused to start I was hoping the worst...but it was simply a lack of voltage from the battery, probably due to the inaccuracy of the battery meter. marknorton Posted January 14, 2011 Share #10 Posted January 14, 2011 Keep in mind that it's a chip in the battery which tells the camera how much capacity remains; the camera cannot tell by simply looking at the battery voltage. It's a good idea therefore to full charge the battery and then run it flat in the camera (switched on with display running and no auto shut-off). Olsen Posted January 14, 2011 Share #11 Posted January 14, 2011 I bought my M8 in April 2007 with two batteries included. One of these never reached the capacity it was supposed to have. I don't know why, but I constantly got all these small black-outs when using this particular battery. But by mid summer last year I decided to buy two new batteries. It was like getting a new camera!
