Portobello Posted January 13, 2011 Share #1  Posted January 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm going on a hike. I'll have a car. I don't want to use an DC inverter. I have plenty of USB battery chargers but the Leica battery charger is only for a wall outlet. Anyone have ideas for re-charging on the go or at night?  Anything that I can buy at a Best Buy or a Fry's or some local electronic shop would be ideal. My trip is tomorrow  I have 2 batteries but I fear that they will run their course quickly over the couple of days. Is it possible to recharge the batteries through the camera's USB?  Thanks

bill Posted January 13, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted January 13, 2011 Welcome. Â Here you go. http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/ - a mate of mine used the Freeloader in the Himalayas for nearly a month; he had the panels attached to his backpack and used the system to charge his (Panasonic) batteries, iPhone, etc. He had enough "spare" power to charge up other people's kit. Mr_Jones Posted January 14, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted January 14, 2011 I'm not sure a device like this can work with the X1. The freeloader charges devices by USB and the X1 needs mains voltage to power the battery charger. They have an item called a CamCaddy which charges universal batteries, but it doesn't list X1 compatibility. Â However I would be very pleased to find out if it does work. NZDavid Posted January 14, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted January 14, 2011 Solar charger idea is very helpful, thanks Bill, however they may not export. Our X1 battery ran out on NZ's West Coast last year; forgot the charger; fortunately was using the M6 so no worries. Take a backup film camera? Portobello Posted January 14, 2011 Author Share #6 Â Posted January 14, 2011 Thanks guys, unfortunately don't really have time for a solar charger to arrive to my place since my hike is in 6 hours! I'm going to stop by Best Buy and pick up one of those inverters and see how that does.
