Question about 35mm Summicron-M Version 2

Hi Everyone....

Just noticed something I thought was odd on my 35mm Summicron-M version 2. I've posted a picture. Take a look at the focus indicator line and the aperture indicator dot. On all other Leica lenses I've used, these are aligned. My lens seems to have the apeture indicator dot off center to the left of the focus indicator line. Does anyone know if this is characteristic of this model of lens?

Just a curious observation. I've taken a few rolls and everything on that end seems to be just great!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts about this.

Hmm - the one other picture of this lens that I find (in Laney's Leica Collectors Guide) shows the aperture index dot in about that same place, or maybe even a bit further to the left. It may be required to keep the little aperture semaphore tab (sticking out beyond f/16) from getting in the way of the mount release button

It was done so on purpose, otherwise the tab for the aperture would interfere with the focustab. Mine is the same as yours and all the others too.

IMHO a really underrated Summicron!

Hi Guys... thanks for the responses. Yes, I've had great results from the lens so far. I had just not seen the aperture indicator off-set like that. Now that I look more carefully, you right it would interfere with the focus tab if they were aligned.

Thanks for the info... time to get back to shooting!

Sorry to jump in.

My v1 goggled summicron 35mm from 1969 has its dot "off centered" exactly like this v2.

May be the switch to v2 production line brought slight modifications to the v1 as well, as it was still produced for years after the v2 came into play?

I post some picts about this in the "historical" part of the forum, in the thread of the v1 35 f/2 opened by Ron.

Cheers,

Laurent

As I pointed out to Luigi Bertolotti quite recently in the Collectors and Historica section – where you cannot have missed it – goggled Summicrons made after the end of v.1 production in 1969 were v.2 lenses, with the mount characteristics (deeply recessed front lens, tab on aperture ring) of the v.2. If anybody can show me evidence of a v.1 made after 1969 I would be grateful to hear about it. But it will take more than a serial number to convince me.

There is no tab on the aperture ring of the lens I am reporting. I just uploaded some picts on the thread in the Historica section. And the front is not recessed deeper than my regular 1960 screw mount summicron 35 f/2.

So I was just wondering why my 1969 v1 35 f/2 has the same off centered black dot than this v2. But without the tab.
